No indie devs for the Wii U? No wonder people are complaining about the lack of games for the Wii U. :/ I just hope Smash 4 doesn't turn out to be a disappointment.

@kiteinthesky No *Japanese* indie devs. Seems a bit ridiculous, but you'd have to admit there are plenty of indie devs in the rest of the world...

Wow...you've destroyed my entire interest in the next Super Smash Bros game...Thanks a lot

Seriously...Nintendo needs to pull their %$@# together because they are losing fans by the second with their ungodly stupid decisions.

PS: Someone smack the SSB4 creator because he is DESTROYING this game.

Nintendo really needs to add cutscenes to SSB4. Who cares if it gets leaked on the Internet? That's bound to happen! Point is many people miss the cutscenes because of it's character interaction, and Nintendo should really consider doing something about it. I wouldn't mind no SSE, but maybe they should create a new adventure mode where they show cutscenes of characters interacting.

I wonder what's going on in Japan. the development culture is very different. People don't rush to stand out nearly as much as they do in the US. I think this timidity is why it is very important for Nintendo to embrace third party developers and help them along to make great games that Nintendo is proud of. They shouldn't shut them down outright.

WTF, No Story mode or cutscenes in the new super smash bros........all those extra things to the previous Smash Bros games added more to the games. Replay Value was ridiculously high and i still play Malee and Brawl now. What are they thinking?

@grasshopper6 Honestly I only played the non-multiplayer modes to unlock characters for the multiplayer ones.

Also I had to think about if it had cut scenes so they clearly weren't that big of grab for me.

I know some people feel like it's a loss but if they even gave me one more good multiplayer mode for the time they spent on the lack luster single player bits I would be trading 5 hours of entertainment for like 20 and I'm ok with that.

So basically, Nintendo says 'no' to e-sports broadcasting of Smash Bros and punishes players because of leaks that they're responsible for in the end, 'no' to *** indie devs, 'no' to region-free WiiU… are they willing to kill their own business??!

In the meantime they have the hardest time negotiating the departing of Miyamoto since none of their current devs seems to be able to pursue the 'magic' he put into his games (his own words in a Gamasutra interview amongst others). The only positive thing I heard from them in over two years is their recent declaration that they won't fire devs to make up for their sheer deficit since, according to them, the only way to get better is to make "great games" and that you don't achieve that by firing people, thus making those who stay feel insecure. That's good on them, but I'm not sure we, consumers, really care about their HR policies either. Only the products and consumer policies matter.

They're crazy. Suicidal. Unfriendly — very MS actually! It's like this small company from Japan is behaving like close-minded yakuzas rather than as a consumer-friendly multinational company, and so arrogant at that… What's the deal with Nintendo these days? I get they do sell 3DS like hot cakes, but the WiiU isn't exactly about to live much longer compared to next-gen or even current-gen consoles, and that must hurt somehow. The good news is we don't have to hesitate much about which console to buy next. :p

Sony's becoming our 'hero' these days. Talk about reversal after the PS3 disastrous launch and X360 early success (though admittedly not at all in Japan). After Nintendo dominated our living rooms in the 80's and 90's, Sony smashed it with PS (1), and looks about to do just that again with PS4. Meanwhile MS is lost somewhere between Apples'n'Googles in a galaxy far, far away called "TV". It looks more and more as if X360 and Windows 7 were the exception (success and praise for a MS product) rather than the beginning of a new era for MS; and now they're as low as hell with X1, Kinect, Surface and Windows 8. Ahhh, business as usual, once again.

Someone should probably look into the indie dev Wii U thing. Maybe a detailed Gamespot video about how licensing agreements work and what has to happen for indie devs in order to put there work on console? I'd find it interesting.

I don't get it: if you really feel that way about Mario & Smash Bros, why are you even bothering to comment on an issue you apparently claim to be so uninterested in?

@Kyokamaru @GAME-QUEST-EX ...I think you are over-estimating exactly how much of Gamespot's content is relevant to the Mario series. GS covers Nintendo news and games just as much as it covers other company's games, and seeing as how almost half of Nintendo's "biggest" products are branded with the Mario name, many of the titles GS reviews from Nintendo will be about it. No need to be getting irritated by it. It's just a fact. I guess I'm just saying that I'm having trouble understanding why your counterpoint is really a valid point...

They pulled the cut-scenes out of twisted metal black for the PAL release to lower the age rating. That ruined the game. Bad move Nintendo. Boo! Hiss!

What kind of logic is Nintendo using, removing the CutScenes from Smash Bros because they have already being leaked on the internet....what??!?

Storylines and CutScenes can be seen as a reward (especially the endings) in a video game and especially in fighting games.

Unless you are primarily playing for the "versus human competition," some extra content in a game like Smash Bros is always welcome.

Why remove story scenes, effectively denying fans potential storyline scenes between a vast variety of different Nintendo (and other guest/mascot) characters, interacting with each other? It doesn't add up.

Tech-wise, the Wii-U is a console that can handle storyline cutscenes, so no excuses there; it's not even a limitation for it. So, why remove a potential selling point for the new Smash Bros game?

Give fans the choice; let them decide if they want to play through an extensive story mode with cutscenes and cool endings. Make a separate mode in which people just jump in and play without any elaborate plot video/animation/scenes to sit through.

Give Smash Bros fans the choice: let them pick which modes of play they want to engage in. Don't just remove a major part of the game because cutscenes have already being leaked online or something. Seriously, if the scenes have already been made, don't take them out of the final game because you are over-reacting to an internet leak.

@GAME-QUEST-EX Ditto, and more on that, isn't the complete removal of already-in-development cutscenes kind of a waste of the developers' efforts? I've kind of become disappointed in Nintendo's methods/decisions these last few years.

There's two sides to Nintendo, one is the creative team behind all their wonderful games, and the other is the money grabbing execs who care more about business than gaming.

Probably true, but if that was the case, then your statement actually describes most successful video game companies in existence today.

..Didn't notice a story in Melee so ok. The reason for axing the story this go round' " oh the leaked footage ruined the plot". A fighting game with a plot? LOL! Don't get me wrong I enjoy the storylines in fighting games (statue standing up in Sagat's stage in SFA 3, nice!) and waiting for the sequels to see who's storyline is the true one (Virtua Fighter: aww Akira didn't win the tourney, It was Lau.) ...

If cut-scenes where leaked isn't that the fault of the company? For not keeping their shit on lock down? Instead they throw a tantrum and remove them basically saying 'ill punish everyone because of the few' and 'you don't deserve the cut-scenes anymore'. Frankly they don't deserve my money with that attitude.

I had to rewind the vid a couple of times in regards to the cut scenes being taken out of Smash Bro's, I am perplexed and offended on Smash Bro's fans behalf. The Wii U is already flagging in sales and crituque. Mr Sakurai sounds like a hurt child venting his frustration by punishing the fans that keep him going. How utterly stupid.

*slow claps another super fantastic Nintendo decision*

they should never ever ever ever take the cutscenes/storyline out of any games in my opinion, without it, it just seems like 1 big skirmish or endurance rounds and after awhile seems pointless to continue playing, i've seen it done a few times, and it just seems like an excuse to be lazy,

heres some examples

street fighter zero 2 alpha, i think it is, i've finished it so many times, i don't even think theres a number for the amount of times i've finished it, but i was more referring to the survivor mode (hold 3 punch and start the game) play that for awhile and i always go back to story mode, even if i seen the endings billions of times,

and i think drgonball z raging blast 2, where the devs said 'oh its dragonball z, the story has been told and retold a thousand times so we completely removed the story so the fans can get into the game quicker, i played the hell out of part one, and when part 2 came out, i played for less than an hour and then put it back in the box and played part 1 all over again, part 2 didn't have progression, no story progression its just pick a level, fight, pick another level, fight and so on, i think they realised the mistake so they put the story back into buddockai tenkaichi ... sure its nothing but a wall of text, but at least its there

i don't know.....seems like only fighting game that does it right lately is the new mortal kombat game with a beefy story mode and arcade mode optional for when you just want a quick fix of the game, that is how a fighting game is meant to be done, give the damn players the option if they are interested in the story or not
