Amazing... So many people with comments, so few who actually know what they are talking about... sigh.... Just reading through the comments shows me that people have no idea what they are talking about, haven't done any research at all, and haven't checked out the console offerings for quite some time, if at all. Based on the comments, I would worry more about the player base than Microsoft, to be quite honest. Oh well, I have been planning on buying it for XBOX One since I got one, and I cant wait to get the Halo pack (yes, its out, yes its been out, no that doesn't mean anything other than they are doing what players want). Good luck people, some of you really need it when it comes to objective and intelligent comments. GG

I guess they will be intelligent enough to know they don't need any changes, maybe some changes for the console versions, who cares.

The PC Version can be changed by mods, shaders and textures, there's just no need to force another look here.

I alos guess they will just continue to add stuff like the last 5 years - it worked well, why should they change that.

If they want to add some MS exclusive material, why not - play in a halo suite, why not, there are many mods like this and much more weird mods too.

If they really want to change something, a new engine might be helpfull, but its also not really needed, there are mods for performance too, a lot people worked hard for man years to bring great visuals and performance to the game, why should MS do this all alone, you can play minecraft in so many ways and its obvious that this a key feature from the PC version.

I hope they don't make any changes to it as of now. And if they do in the future, please leave this old version of it. Its perfect as of now. I would like to see another updated version of it at some point. MInecraft is a beautiful game, reminds me of the old school games which i luved so much. That don't exist anymore.

I think that they will F Up the game by making it demanding like 4+ GB ram 2.5GHZ 4xCore CPU etc as microsoft is usually doing with all his software

I think selling minecraft to microsoft was a dumb idea because microsoft could just destroy minecraft and turn it into some kind of campaign game. I think we all know what would happen if that happens nobody would play minecraft.

The way I see it is that Microsoft just is higher tier than Mojang. They are the ones that just get all the money! Mojang is still Mojang and is still the same team, people... Everything will remain the same, unless Microsoft will want to set major changes inside Mojang's team. This is unlikely to happen since the old folks at Mojang know best what is best for the game. Microsoft just gets all the money :)

I don't think they will ruin Mojang. I had absolutely no faith in Mojang or Notch creating anything of actual worth anyway. They clearly paid to get Minecraft which is the only thing of value in this deal. Minecraft has sold so many copies that it is hard to find anyone that may be interested that hasn't already bought it. I'm not sure they are looking to gain money directly from Minecraft. I think they may have bought a loyal userbase to bring into using Microsoft Accounts which they have long tried and failed to do.

Did everyone forget about Tekkit and the other addons like Feed The Beast? I started out with Minecraft but switched over to Tekkit for the massive expansion which they did on Minecraft! Galactricraft, thermal expansion, etc--- whats going to happen to Tekkit? I bet MS will ask for royalty fees from the Technic creators.

MS is really great at ruining everything.

The updates Minecraft had in the last 4 years that were all for free, will now turn into DlCs and you may just have to pay 100$ to get the next updates over the next years.

I don't care about the console version which are all just completely useless - but what will happen to the PC Version?

Can you still use mods? play on own servers?

I think everyone with a some brain knows MS isn't good for anything - they just throw out money to keep their Xbox brand alive - i wouldn't wonder to see Minecraft exclusvie for Xone.

It would be great to see Notch making the next big minecraft like game with a bigger studio behind - he have the money to do it and everyone would just look away from minecrfaft and play the new minecrfaft like game by Notch.

Theres so much about Minecraft that coudl be better or changed at all - it would be so happy to see that happen.

All he have to do is combining a really creative team with really good programmers.

He could make a great AAA Minecraftesque game with a few million dollars and it woudl be like peanuts for him.

Woudl be great to see a game like that, they good at so much great stuff that MS would never thought about. Just make it like lego in a big Universewith.

Minecraft always felt like a prototype that was made really cheap ... (indie typical maybe)

It would be so great to see a step further

I think a big topic of discussion should be the possibility of ever seeing Minecraft on a Nintendo Platform. They can put it on Vita, why not 3DS, the platform that is Trouncing all over it. Why not a Wii U version these platforms would work so will with the game, managing inventory on the Second Screen and stuff like that. Mojang came out with an obvious BS answer to the very question saying that they're concerned about low sales numbers and having to support a the low selling version, Minecraft sells it self and if Nintendo is for Kids then Minecraft should be on there since a large majority Minecraft player is between the ages of 5 - 12. It pretty obvious they said that because of this whole thing, but if Microsoft will allow the games to remain maintained on other platforms why not let Nintendo players have it, it can only mean more money.

@JoSilver The 3DS is not nearly as powerful as the Vita. While Minecraft isn't the best looking game, I doubt it can run on the 3DS.

It won't affect it. People are making a big deal out of nothing. Mojang got lucky with Minecraft (as much as I love Minecraft). They aren't a treasure trove of talent like Rare was, so there is nothing to ruin.

At the very worst, microsoft will just make a Minecraft 2 and market the **** out of it, making money off of the brand and the inevitable gold mine worth of sales a sequel would bring in. And that hardly affects Minecraft 1.

And all of that (and anything else anyone says) is purely speculative. No one should be hurt or angry by this news because no one is affected by it yet.

Kevin is truly the only game journalist that knows what he is talking about. His first statement about MS running them into the ground is a concern.

Either way. Minecraft has done pretty much all it can do and that has been getting on everything with a screen and not much more..

There are a lot of other Minecraft clone 2.0's coming out that are way more optimized and feature rich. Let's hope that now MS has its hands on Minecraft people will move away from it and support more polished feature rich alternatives. Minecraft Vanilla is a joke compared to the funds they have earned from it.

If Microsoft expects to make the 2.5 billion back by 1 fiscal year, they must be planning some kind of new monetization. It's not going to make that by them just staying hands off and letting it continue as-is.

My guess is it has to have something to do with servers. There's a lot of money to be made in Minecraft private servers, and Mojang has only started to get into that space with their "Realms". It's the biggest revenue streams Mojang has not taken advantage of yet. Microsoft could set up official servers and make it so nobody is able to run a private server anymore. Which could be go very well or could go very bad depending on how they do it.

>If Microsoft expects to make the 2.5 billion back by 1 fiscal year

Who thinks this?

It made 300,000 million last year, so things going JUST as they are right now they would make their investment back in 8 or so years, and profit from there on out. Maybe the company makes another game though which would probably sell well as Mojang has established their name, or does a proper improvement on Minecraft and entices people to get Xbox's where the improvements take place and they get their investment back even sooner. One year though, that's quite a strange sentiment..

So much cluelessness within the video. Journalism majors need more business classes. No one thinks that any game will ever make $2.5 billion annually from microtransactions. Minecraft is a gold mine for merchandising. Prepare for Microsoft to give Minecraft the Disney marketing treatment. They'll meet their ROI goal fairly easily.

As for Mojang and games like scrolls, almost no one cares. I hadn't even heard of the game until the rumors of this acquisition first surfaced.

Just the other day there was an article about Activision/Blizzard's billion dollar franchises. Microsoft just stole one for 2.5 billion.

For a person who says that "journalism majors need more business classes", I don't see you citing published case studies.

Sure, you cited Disney, but which merchandizing arm of Disney really? Which one of it made returns of investment through merchandizing on game-related IPs, to be specific? (Do be reminded that many of Disney's IPs originated from its movies - not games.)

(Also, please don't cite Disney Infinity if you bother to reply. There is no clear information on whether that game has broken even.)

@Gelugon_baat @xisiuizado
Citing case studies to demonstrate a lack of business knowledge amongst journalists is overkill. The video demonstrated a complete lack of business acumen.

As for merchandising, do you truly need examples of how merchandising takes franchises from cultural phenomena and transforms them into revenue juggernauts. Star Wars, Pokemon, etc. became transcendent through marketing toys to children. Minecraft already transcends categories related to interests and age. Getting a parent to buy a Minecraft plushie takes no convincing when the parent wants one of his or her own.

Additionally, you misunderstood my point with Disney. I mentioned them due to their ability to transform something relatively ordinary, such as Cars, into something with a sequa and spin offs mostly due to the added exposure that its franchises receive through Disney's marketing efforts that concentrate many of its resources into merchandising. This strategy succeeds with poorly known franchises. Thus, Microsoft will have no issue cashing in on Minecraft's previous success and widespread appeal.

@Gelugon_baat @xisiuizado Well they are making the first Disney Infinity a free download so i think they made some money back, they just have to keep throwing out new updates like Disney 2.0 and 3.0 so on and so on, they will make their money back sooner or later.

For Minecraft, keeping it on all platforms is a good idea because there are a lot of Youtubers who play Minecraft on all platforms and they generate profit for companies like Mojang. That's why Microsoft isn't gonna get rid of it's competition because of the Youtube base. If they did they would have a Youtuber backlash and They'll lose money BIG TIME. Plus royalties being on other consoles and merchandising sells like hotcakes to children of all ages because it's become a fad. They will make their money in many different ways.

I will believe it when I see it. I, for one, doubt that Microsoft is as 'creative' as Disney (which took on the idea after Activision made a killing with Skylanders), or, more likely, as willing to work with other corporate entities, namely those who would do the manufacturing and packaging of merch.
