I like what I see. I'm planning on building a much heftier rig in about a year or so, but I'm glad to have some budget perspective so I can know what "expensive" looks like compared to budget builds.

In those side-by-side comparisons in the video, the console versions looked like they were performing better to me. Perhaps the fixed 30fps is the console way of skirting around screen tearing. At the very least, it looked like the console footage had a more predictable frame rate.

Also, PC monitors have much higher pixel densities than TVs and you are usually sitting much closer to them, so a PC has to work harder to appear as good. When you're sitting 10ft away from a TV, a console can get away with less texture and lighting details and still look great.

And I am a bit of a PC fan, and therefore I will not go the major budget route.

I like the AMD article better... that author did a better job at explaining stuff. He's just running with his thoughts.

Im glad that with a little know how, you can achieve this but a few pointers. Ewww, dat cable management (or lack of), going with and Intel/Nvidia build is 9 out of 10 times going to be more expensive than an AMD build and a lot of game have switched their focus to them like Crytek. This would of allowed you to buy a cheaper multicore CPU while gaining more power more power on the GPU end. An AMD R7 260x 2gb card is the same price as the 750ti and has more power. But you could of tacked on a few more bucks since the CPU budget would of been less and went with a mid level GPU. I also strongly disagree with your choice of OS. Win 8 is not good for gaming. It has support issues for some games (especially the older ones). Windows 7 would of been a wiser choice. Both support DX11 and most game devs will not be supporting 11+ releases. Their is almost no benefit in doing so. DX12 may end up being exclusive to the next version of Windows or rumored Xbone optimization which seems to be its main focus any way. Got off topic, point is, Win7 is cheaper I assume and vastly more user friendly. Good job though on debunking a nasty rumor about getting into PC Gaming.

Do NOT add the cost of Windows to it. That's a waste of the budget considering the os of consoles really can just play the games. Use Steam OS, which is free, and there you go, $100 off and an os that's much more like console os. That's under $450 for one.

Yeah, but the point is to NOT build something that will be obsolete in two months. Seriously. Coming out of the gate, that 'rig' will already be unable to play Watchdogs at peak settings. This is the equivalent of saying, "Duh, there are some awesome new next gen consoles out there like the PS4, but I have a secret way to get a PS3 for half the cost of a PS4!" Big deal...

@ericfoss Consoles have never been able to do graphics at what the 'peak' levels are for pc, they're more equivalent to medium to low graphics if you look at side by side comparison.

@ericfoss None of these "awesome new next gen consoles" can play Watch_Dogs at peak settings neither, that means they are not big deal as well? Only high end PCS are worth to buy?

The AMD rig is better since it costs less.In the AMD video he kinda used some things that weren't needed so that's why they bumped the price higher. But Intel and Nvidia components tend to cost more than AMD and be simillar powered or even less powered.

Why is everyone ignoring the fact that you can do more on a PC than just play games, even on a gaming one.So the price should be = price of a PC you use in your household for PC stuff + the price of a console.

@MonocleOwl Right, the fact that a PC is more than a game console is one of the last things mentioned in the video. (Around the 5:47 mark).

Well for that budget you really shouldn't have wasted a 5th of the budget on crappy Win8. Use SteamOS next time :p Then ypu have more budget for a better graphics card. Also keep in mind Pc games are much cheaper and have more sales. So even if you pay more for your PC to have a bigger gap, you still end up using less money if you include many games into the calculation

@ArchoNils2 only problem with SteamOS at this time is the limited amount of games optimized for Linux.

Well that is not really the point of the video. It is all about getting the best bang for your money and to get more power out of the Pc than a xBox One. When you replace Win8 with SteamOS you still have the better OS and more quality games than with Ps4, xOne and WiiU combined and you have more money to proof the gap. I just think that using the fifth of the budget on a OS just to prove that the power of the system is better is kinda weird

It should also be noted that on PC you will save a substantial amount of money on the games, especially digital. There are a lot of sites to buy digital PC games, but even if you stick with the more reputable ones like Greenman Gaming, you will often find PC pre-orders or new releases on sale several times for 20% to 30% off. Even boxed retail PC games are often cheaper. Of course, if you have the patience to wait, the deals can get even better. Sales on boxed console games can also be found, sometimes good discounts, but less frequently and it does require a little more effort to find those especially good deals. Decent console digital discounts are usually not found until quite some time after release. Of course that's due to the mostly closed nature with virtually no competition. I know Amazon does sell PS4 digital games, but so far I'm not aware of any discounts there.

I think if you actually evaluate the cost over years, the PC will come out a lot cheaper. That doesn't mean PC is a good alternative for everyone, but the argument that it's more expensive often doesn't stand up when you look at the overall situation, the total cost of ownership as they say.

Very nice budget build though I would be a bit worried about that 300W PSU seeing as that is the very minimum recommended for the 750Ti not taking into account other factors.

Also not sure if it was simply the capture device used but all the PC footage looked washed out compared to the PS4 and even X1 footage.

Now biggest question is can this be done with only $400? Or $428 where I live for a PS4 with tax.
