I bought MMX, and I'm having a great time with it. I didn't play as much MM6-8, but MM3 is one of my favorite games of all time. (Some old-school players may recognize my avatar from MM2!) Thanks for the bold recommendation, Jess!
Nice list Jess, most origianl and open choice from the editors videos so far. the rest of you seem to be swayed by the opinion of one of the other editors (no names!) or can't pull yourself away from the hype of marketing. Not what I expect from GS which used to be an absolutely awesome site a couple of years ago. Here's to hoping that we can get some of that back in 2015. Merry Christmas everyone! :)
Jess you simply rock my world. Your list is almost identical to mine !!!! It's so interesting that you are a few years younger than me, but site all the best games from yesteryear as your favorites when you were 7-8 that I played in the same way when I was 16.
Would love to share notes over a coffee someday ;)
Holy cow! I have the same gaming taste as Jesse!. I love Might & Magic X and you'd be surprised how stupid you are yourself when you can't solve some riddle or puzzle. I have yet to try Vanishing of Ethan Carter or Valiant Hearts. My backlog of games are just too huge. Jesse could try out Heroes of Might & Magic or King's Bounty. Those are pretty awesome games too and certainly my favorites.
@pelvist I was thinking about the same thing. So far only one of the five editors picked Mordor. On the other hand, DA Inquisition is almost in every editor's list. Gamespot is prefering dark horse selections just to create controversy and get more hits. If they select DAI, not many people would post on their website.
Jess you should play MM4&5 on GoG. Best in the series IMO. Holds up better than 6 graphically also. Amazing games. They just don't make games like that anymore. They have to dumb them down for the masses.
Ugg...Jess's posts are always followed by the saddest, pathetic comments by 40 year old virgins. I don't know what is worse, the people who make disgusting suggestive comments with all the sophistication of a 11 year old or the lame as hell suck ups trying to ingratiate themselves as if they actually might have a chance with her. Yarf.
@zerohournow Sadly it's not just on Jess' videos. I was watching a video with a woman doing rig rundowns for bands touring gear. She knew more about the guitars, pedals and amps than the technicians who are paid to set it up. But most of the comments were about her attractiveness than her encyclopedic knowledge of guitars. The same went for a woman who gives guitar lessons on YouTube. It's really depressing to think that if all three were guys they would be praise solely for the content of the videos not their attractiveness.
I love this site. Its so stable across every browser and is in no way choppy. I love how the text I type comes up 3 seconds after i type it... very handy feature!
Haven't played Might & Magic X so I can't say much about it, but shouldn't she at least mention Legends of Grimrock II ? It has way better scores across the board. Divinity was ok, but still nowhere near Baldur's Gate 2 or Planescape: Torment ( maybe Pillars of Eternity will be better but I'm not getting my hopes up ).
And to all the creepers below: Lucy >> Jess. Sorry :)
@TheExxorcist I'm surprised that people are surprised by Ms. McDonell getting such comments. She's had them long before too, just check out her wall. Maybe she's already gotten used to it, but I think we all know its a $h!tty world.
I really like how this is like an interview of Jess Mcdonell rather than being another journalistic piece on video games. Most of these articles will be try to be objective and will give us what we can find anywhere else on the internet. Letting gamers know more about gamespot's staff is not only socially satisfying but also provides us with information. I wan't Seb's interview next followed by Lucy's.
Didn't play Might & Magic X yet, but i enjoyed playing Valiant Hearts, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, DA: I, Divinity: OS.....definitely great games. Good list. :)
As soon as I heard of Mass Effect 2 I fell into nostalgia...I need to play it again, like right NOW. Wish I could carry around my PS3 while traveling (for work,) because the huge a$$ TV in my hotel room is sucking thumbs right now.
That's a nice list. I still have yet to play Dragon Age Inquisition. Valiant Hearts is in my top three, and while not one of my favorites, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a game that I'm happy to have had the chance to play when I originally didn't think I would be able to, as I really had no way to on release. I wasn't really that excited for it, nor did I know much about it, but after getting a decent enough PC for free from my boss' boss as I walked through the entrance of work one day, I had that chance.
