One Big Thing Assassin's Creed Valhalla Should Learn From Odyssey

We know Assassin's Creed Valhalla is coming this year, but there's one thing in particular we hope the new installment carries on from Odyssey; its brilliant sense of humor.

The Assassin's Creed franchise is known for being very serious--but Odyssey was a refreshing change of pace with its boisterous and joyful humor. In a new video, Jess McDonell explains why she hopes the humor from Odyssey carries forward to the new Assassin's Creed game, Valhalla, which is releasing later this year.

Be sure to watch the full video to see Jess explain why Valhalla should carry forward Odyssey's light and humorous tone, or at least retain some element of it.

This would help vary the tone of Valhalla beyond the serious core narrative, just as it did in Odyssey, an important factor if we're to expect a world just as sprawling as Ubisoft's Ancient Greece, Jess says in the video.

Valhalla releases later this year on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, in addition to the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

Fix the combat or don’t bother. If you like hacking at guys with zero response, have I got a game for you...

Odyssey was a great game, (the best next to Black Flag IMO), and I did enjoy the humor. But I really don't want to see humor in Valhalla, I want that shit to be straight up grimdark, (but it doesn't look like it will be). I'll still get it though.

Can we just get back to the original story that slowly leads to the modern era? Instead of this new line of, "What would be historically cool" Creed games (AC Origin, Odyssey, and Valhalla).

And, can we also get back to our sex in every time period Desmond Miles character arc. Instead of the blander than a bowl of sugar-free soy milk, and brand flakes, "You are literally the literal hero of the story" BS, with the first-person camera?

No? Then f*** you.

I think the thing I want Valhalla to learn from Odyssey is: 'Don't spread your game too thin.' I'd rather have a smaller map and less overall content if it meant what was there had more depth.

It's funny that so many you try to help in AC Odyssey, tries to get in your pants! Males or females..

They won't learn anything. You will be doing chores, scanning enemies with your hawk and track them through walls. This is your gameplay in all AssCreed games for now and 10 years in the future.

@hardwenzen: Nice crystal ball. If you're keeping up with the game, it sounds like they are really narrowing the scope, and focusing less on neverending sidetasks. Do your homework.

I stopped playing AC long time ago because it was too whimsical. It blows my mind that the first sentence here is that "The Assassin's Creed franchise is known for being very serious".

Please please please, decapitation or don't make the game at all, no guys leaking out, no head chops, no arm chops, no wound system, no hyperthermia, no heat or body issues temperature issues, no nemisis system then scrap the game and let assassin's creed franchise burn.

The only assassin's creed to stay in the rest of time in the AC universe, is black flag and origins, you can't beat those games so give up Ubisoft, if you can't add what's above.

I think the humour in Odyssey was good, but I wouldn't mind a slightly darker approach to Valhalla.

My main problem with Odyssey is that, while the missions usually had a good setup, carrying them out was generally the same gameplay loop over & over & over again. The world felt too big, not because the player ever ran short of interesting stories, but because every fort was a lot like the last & many missions sent you back to the same locations to repeat the same things you had already done.

I really hope Valhalla has more bespoke, crafted missions, rather than relying on the game systems for every single mission. Main story missions should feel different from simply exploring the world & checking off locations.

I did like the humour in AC: Odyssey. I hope Valhalla doesn't loose it.
