I went to GameStop the other day and cashed in on their sale on PS2 games.I bought at least 15 of the cheapest ones, but they were only in little sleeves. I asked for the boxes, and they told me that they had thrown them away. I was honestly stunned, and just as this show is saying, GameStop doesn't have a clue about people who actually care about the games. I just wasn't mean enough to ask the employees to dig through the trashcan.

This is exactly how you LOSE listeners/viewers, Gamespot. You have dedicated users who come back on a weekly basis to find your show. Yet you remain impotent to put anything up. Not a show, not a notice about why there isn't a show, not a "we'll be back next week!", nothing. If you don't care, why should we?

I really like gamespot.com. But too many shows are cancelled with no further notice. (like On the spot, Quoted for truth,..) And there is no communication about it. Please give us more details please.

@remotelock When he is not answering your question. That means, i hate to say, he's leaving gamespot or he is not supposed to speak by the bosses. Sad, that really good game critics, leave or want to leave gamespot....

@TomMcShea Give it to us straight, Tom, is this show dead? And, also, when will you be announcing YOUR departure? Not that I would ever wish for one, not by a long shot, but... Brendan gone, John gone. So depressing. Outstanding personalities, all of you. Don't let QTF die, man, don't let it die...

I feel that this whole AAA becoming "extinct" is largely faulty due to EA. Releasing iterative games yearly (Fifa, Madden etc.), and surprisingly got away with it, with some decent sales. Giving an impression to the industry that, Yes! It is possible to sell a game with little modification every year and ppl still buying it regardless of it lack of change over the year. The military shooter series is testament to that. The future should lie with games like dark souls which really challenges the players and makes them think, also MOBA games like Dota are models from which industries should learn more about. (ie. why does it make ppl play the same game with the same level for infinite repetitions, I for one cannot get enough!)

yeah but unlike books or movies an easy option DOESN'T remove the hard option. I think demon/dark souls are great games and i enjoy playing them. I would not mind at all if they stay super tough to beat. But i'm not gonna cry if they add an easy option. I hate to sound like I'm attacking the guy but i find that kind of childish to get upset about something like that.

Tripple is here to stay. at least on the big consoles perhaps not as many but we will always see a few. most likely adding multiplayer modes and tons of dlc. or new versions using the same engine.

I don't agree with u on dark-souls I like how Kingdom hearts does it Difficulty if you play on Critical Mode you get better abilities faster and it make it easier to get item faster but at the same to the game a pain to beat if you don't have the skill and knowledge to beat it

I don't really give a shit about the difficulty of Dark Souls. I haven't bought it, and won't, until I hear that From Software stops disabling 360 party chat. You want to disable chat in the game, fine, it's your game. Party chat is separate, it's something that comes with Live service, and as far as I'm concerned no developer has my permission to suspend a service I pay for.

I just want to say that EA ruined Mass Effect 3 by forcing Bioware to put multiplayer in it. It wasn't the most compelling sci-fi rpg that mass effect 2 was and therefore dissapointed players for different reasons.

@SoreThumbsBill I'm surprised they talked about dynamic easy modes without mentioning Ninja Dog in Ninja Gaiden. It was so unashamedly pitying that it made you feel bad for sucking. But that's exactly what the developers and the good NG players wanted to see.

@ruythalacker @SoreThumbsBill no no no no seperate difficulty modes, that ruins the integrity, make the game much more harder and no options for lesser difficulties.

Developers, publishers, distributors, retailers, governments, and anything that isn't me, myself, and I (or a parent in the case of child gamers) should not be conducting ANY form of censorship. Make the product, inform the public about the product, properly rate the product, and let me decide whether or not it's something that I should be consuming. Otherwise, keep your morals and objections to yourself about what I do in the privacy of my own home.

People play games for FUN. Being able to set the difficulty level is part of that. Some people don't give a care about the challenge, they just want to play and have fun doing it. If you're a player that is all about feeling satisifaction from learning the skill and strategy needed to take a game at high difficulty then good for you. It also doesn't hurt you in the slightest for the developer to include the ability to turn the difficulty down either. And don't even try to use the "it messes up the whole flow of the game" or "it influences how they make the game" arguments because that just shows bad on the developer if it does. Stop being elitist about games and realize that there are other people out there who want to play but are put off by the Normal difficulty setting. What someone else is doing in their own living room isn't hurting you. Nobody is talking about removing the difficulty that is there, simply ADDING accessibility.

@endorbr I totally agree. I love how Demon's and Dark Souls are difficult, but it doesn't hurt me whatsoever if there were an option for lesser difficulty. All the "hardcore" can simply not play on that setting. Simple.

I think some people take their gaming a bit too seriously, acting as if they are really accomplishing something grand and great. They aren't.

The difficulty in Dark Souls is perfect as it is. It is, in fact, the difficulty that makes the game attractive to all its fans and what sets it apart from other games. If you take that away, then all you are left with is another run-of-the-mill game that is just like every other action RPG out there and thus, its uniqueness will be lost. People need to keep in mind that Dark Souls was meant to be hard, and that the difficulty itself is an ingrained part of its entire gameplay design.

The fact is that different games are made with different audiences in mind. Some are for those who love puzzle, some for those who love simplicity and some for those who love tactics. Some were made to be easy and some were made to be hard and in both cases, its to suit an audience that loves that type of gaming experience. In the end, when it comes to gaming, there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" approach because there is no possible way it would work unless you want ALL of your games to become generic and bland. As it is, we are all already spoiled for choice when it comes to the games we can buy, so if one doesn't suit us, whether its because of style, genre or difficulty, then all we need to do is find another one that does. Why must we now level a playing field that should never be leveled and where uniqueness and variety of choice should be celebrated and not scorned?

I love video games, always have. But I'm rubbish at hard modes. I want to appreciate all games but when I invest in one and for the life of me can't complete it I feel a little left out (i want to know what happens!) Having an easy mode will be there for people with less skill and the "real" players need never look at it.

So the guy wearing glasses say there shouldn't be an easy mode for Dark Souls because it will take away the exclusivity from its fans. This is really dumb. So you want the 99% of the population to suffer just so the 1% can feel the exclusivity? If that's the case then you really aren't playing the game for what it is, but competing against people who don't even care about it in its current difficulty. In other words you really aren't competing against anyone, you just want to feel like you accomplished something in your life. I don't even know wtf doing here at 3AM, but I think I have a point here somewhere.... yawn

@sabawoon Since we are clearly using hyperbole here, I would actually say that 99% of the population (i.e. current players of Dark Souls) are enjoying the game, and 1% are the ones who suffer. So, should then the developers try to appeal to that 1% in expense of those 99%?

@sabawoon If I were to build a guild, then yes. Trying to make EVERYONE happy very rarely results in everyone happy, most likely everybody will be disappointed but in different levels. Trying to cater to a specific segment would be more worthwhile. Of course, this is just one business model. You can make AAA titles with mega sized dev teams and try making everyone happy. Or You can do it the other way. And let's skip the "fail at life" part, 'cause I don't even know what that means...

This reminds me of how much I hate GameStop. I miss my little game store in the mall. They cared about the simple things. They sold old consoles, still packaged, right along new ones. It was like walking into a well worn record store. I still remember the joy of flipping through the racks, picking up odd titles I had never heard of. They sold some of the oddest things there. Old Dungeons and Dragons memorabilia. All sorts of trading cards. All sorts of anime vhs. It was a nerds dream. A true paradise, where bearded, acne filled men talked for hours about going back and playing all the Final Fantasy titles on their respective consoles, so that they could drown in utter gamer nostalgia. One day they closed, and a few months later there was a GameStop in it's place. Back then it was exciting to see the new shiney store, with demo consoles on plasma screens. Now it makes me want to cry.

>AAA games dying

None of those estimations are true, we will however see more and more games which still costs like 50$ but has like 15 DLCs within a year but still runs on the same engine.

>Dark souls difficulty

If a game is too hard, you're not trying hard enough or you don't want to try hard enough. Playing a game until you have something to lose (5+ hours) and then complaining about difficulty is just childish whining, unless there are inherent flaws (like with endless space) in which case it's ok, but dark souls doesn't have any flaws, aside from the exploits and how easy it is to level up, get halberd, painted world, phalanx, gg.

>EA stopping doing single-player

Good, I guess, that way they will degenerate into some casual cesspit.

I guess Tom and Pete haven't heard of neverwinter nights.

>GameStop selling vintage games

I don't really care about buying vintage games, even if you buy it the money won't go to everyone in the dev team.

>Ubisoft DRM

WOAH, SLOW DOWN, WHAT? Seriously? Damn, had hoped they would have crashed and died before I saw that happening.

>Valve thing

This isn't good, at all, I mean they could just change steam a bit so that you can't search for it nor find it on the front page, so that you can only find it through link of friend referral, that way if some mother freaks out valve can simply say "Well, he needed to seriously know what he was searching for, you can't accidentally stumble onto this".

Also, was it only me or did they just totally avoid the subject in the last segment?

@vicke32 The main reason why there are AAA titles with lots of DLC at this point, because current gen consoles reached their limit. They can't innovate in terms of graphics so they don't feel the need to innovate in terms of gameplay since it's very risky. Once the new gen hits the shelves, they are more likely to make new titles, I think.
