We will get there when we get there, and we will get there. It is said in the future that the difference between the virtual world and the real world will be indistinguishable.

All I could think about is the "Ready Player One" book by Ernest Cline.

Some of these things need to evolve, , but It's starting...

O - Oculus Rift
A - ?
S - Steam controller (haptic feedback)
I - Internet
S - ?

What lies in the future??

This is the beginning of getting the masses to understand that the world they currently live in is a "dream" or virtual reality of matter. We live in a holographic universe and the mind is using the brain as a virtual simulator to generate experiences for the sake of evolution to a higher dimension. Einstein said in this new type of physics (quantum) there is not enough room for both the field and matter, for matter is the illusion and the field must be the only reality. Math doesn't lie and quantum physics is not radical opinion.

After watching 3 episodes of this show, this is now hands down my favorite gaming related show on the internet. This is the thinking gamer's show, this is the PC gamer's show. Thanks for making this!

i think its a great idea :) but there are some truly terrifying applications for this type of tech. in the wrong hands it could be a torture device, a prison, a means to inflict terrible physiological damage.

and there are plenty of people / agency's with wrong hands out there ...

I just really hope that even if this kind of technology becomes more popular, it's not going to result in ALL games being first person. I like my on-screen avatars, thank you.

Do we really want a virtual world that's 100% immersive? How will we be able to differentiate the real from the unreal? If it's real to all our senses what's to say that's not a reality in and of itself? Or something similarly inception-esque.

Well we will get true VR. I don't know how long it will take, but for now, we need the entire computing power of Google to make the world 'real'. And that simply costs WAY too much.

@gfrgafffgfffady You don't see a double image, it looks like 1 image, so drunk you would see 2, just like in the real world. It's like 3D (well because it is), without glasses you see 2 images, but with, you see 1.

Oculus Rift is a start for something potentially great. All we need now is more time and money. I think within a decade, we'll be able to get stunning graphics and incredible response for full immersion. Maybe the Oculus Rift will replace the T.V for gamers one day.

Looking forward to enter the Matrix....or are we there already? I'm confused.

Looks good and if it has further applications other than games already, I hope the research and development continues to be supported/funded.

@hairdie Plus, I don't really think they want to spend a ton of time perfecting a simple demo when they are simply trying to perfect the hardware behind the concept. The reason that graphics get polished up all nicely is for the consumers. When devs are testing features it really doesn't matter that much

@hairdie it would affect the refresh rate of the Oculus and this would delay your movement on screen destroying the VR affect, when the Oculus hard ware gets better so will the graphics it can support. make sense?

The prototype unit that I've played around with is very cool - but not near the point where you could "get lost" in.

However, I think the consumer version, coupled with something like the OMNI could really cause you to question reality. It's an exciting (and frightening) aspect.

Great Vid!

frankly if u hook some stimuli to the base of the brain and that tech was so high (think matrix) the person won't know the difference between realilty or fiction

in fact the only indicator would be the body in reality degrading from lack of food, light, water...etc, now would the brain realize this is up for debate.... perhaps it will "die" no one will know until we make true VR

I'm a Game design major and they had gotten an oculus rift dev kit today and when I demoed it, it was kind of off putting and disorientating and I could only look through it for a short period of time before it started making me sick to my stomach but still very amazing. The biggest problems I had with it was the resolution (800 X 600), and the frame rate was kind of bad, but they are making an HD version so I hope these problem will be fixed.

Touch, taste, sight, sound, smell. Of the 5 senses, we can really only achieve sight and sound reliably at the moment, barring some kind of extreme smell machine wafting odours at you. Things like motion can sorta be achieved with things like an omni-directional treadmill, and immersion increased further with motion cameras, or things like a gun controller. I'd imagine that's about what's attainable right now at any rate, until our understanding of physics allows for the holodeck at any rate, or we develop methods to, instead of fooling our exterior sense, try to hook into our brain and fool it directly. Implanted brain chips here we come! Err... hmm... what with hacking, that's probably not the best idea.

@Falzonn Well I do believe brain hacking will be the only way to achieve this 5-sense immersion you are referring to. But I hope we still have some time until then, as "BTL addiction" will surely become a social problem when this comes.

For now and for the coming years, it would be great to see our sense of balance be tricked by oculus rift 2 (or 3). Since that sense is based on our ears, would there not be a way for a device placed on the ear to trick it?

Next would be touch. When I think of touch, I think of the Lawnmower Man movie with the full body suit. There has got to be something we can do for this! (Isn't now the era of industrial mass production of electronic goods? Then why not suits?) Even if you trick only my hands with details in terms of touch, and the rest of my body partially, I think I can get immensely drown into another reality.

Well, that's until I am hungry or sleepy. Which I am now, so I let you guys express your ideas! How should we be tricked next?
