After months and months of wondering what Solo: A Star Wars Story was going to be like, after so much on-set drama and a high-profile troubled production, fans have finally gotten their look at the first adventure of Han Solo. Now, it's time to talk spoilers. If you haven't seen Solo: A Star Wars Story yet, you should stop reading and watching this right now.
As it turns out, despite the changing directors and questions over whether star Alden Ehrenreich could follow in the footsteps of Harrison Ford, Solo is a good movie. It achieved that by, for the most part, just being fun. While some Star Wars movies are steeped in mythology and the extended universe, this particular entry managed to just be an exciting action-adventure story. That's not to say it didn't play into the franchise's mythology. After all, this is Han's origin story and manages to include many nods and references to the Star Wars galaxy. However, it manages to ground it all in what is essentially a heist movie in space.
It's not perfect, though. Clearly, the movie should have included more of Donald Glover as Lando, and the fan service sometimes became a bit too much. Does anyone feel complete knowing Han got the last name Solo because an Imperial recruiter assigned it to him at random? The shocking underutilization of Thandie Newton as Val, who was killed off not long after she was introduced, was a serious mistake.
We have plenty more to say about Solo: A Star Wars Story, as well as the best Easter eggs scattered throughout the movie, which you can see in the spoiler review above. What did you think about the movie? Sound off in the comments!
