Splinter Cell Is Still A Damn Good Stealth Game | Nostalgia Trip

Even though we didn't see a new Splinter Cell at E3 2018, Michael and Jake decided it was time to give the first one another shot.

I replayed Splinter Cell a few months back, really did enjoy it. I really like the urban and indoors environments and the whole "cyber warfare" theme. I've only played the first one, Pandora Tomorrow and Blacklist, and while I like Pandora Tomorrow, I feel like the outdoorsy and "exotic" locations in that game weren't as cool as those in the original game.

By the way I should go on Steam and buy Chaos Theory, missed that game and I only hear good things about it.

@nibbin1191: God I hope so! We really need another SC game. I loved Blacklist and it looked fantastic on the 360; imagine how great a new one would look on the One / PS4!

I actually still have my 360 copy - back compat please MS!!!

Splinter Cell combined the setpiece driven nature of Metal Gear Solid and some of the analogue mechanical considerations of Thief, along with its own overreliance on heavy scripting constantly tethering players. Context sensitive interactions were also painfully digital and meshed badly with the rest of the gameplay implementation. It has aged very poorly and the characters suck.

PLEASE MORE such articles/videos and LESS potato mode crap!!!

Such videos and articles are so much better, you are doing the gaming community a huge favor and might even promote the younger folks to try those games too as they missed out on the golden days of offline long amazing SP campaigns.

Best stealth game to to fully use shadows and lighting. Conviction was a letdown because they removed the darkness out of it, ruining the game.

@Sindroid: i suggest jumping directly into thief2. Thief1 is very old!! I got it back in th day with my SoundBlaster Live Platinum.

Thief is really difficult, a lot of mazes etc and you must be a Voodoo 2 graphics type of guy to really enjoy it :)

Thief2 is more detailed. But yeah, those are 100% stealth games for most parts.

@bongaconga: There's something about Thief's graphics that reminds me of the PC version of Tomb Raider 2 lol
I've recently started playing that game and I've been really enjoying it, didn't expect to get so scared by those zombies in the caves on the second level, though

I suggest the next game to be F.E.A.R. it still holds up incredible well for a 13 year old game and in my opinion no other FPS shooter since has match it's amazing firefights.

@warmblur: ah man, that game was great but frustrating because you needed a mega-pc for no 20-30 fps during major firefights and even there they dropped to like 30-35.

Chaos Theory struck the perfect balance between stealth "puzzle" and action. You could shoot your way through the level, but you'd run out of ammo really quickly, and would probably die. Plus the inclusion of lethal and nonlethal options on all levels really expanded my ability to RP the character. Who deserves to die, and who deserves to be knocked out?

Also, playing Chaos Theory and Hitman: Blood Money right around the same time was pure magic. Two great stealth action games.
