@BlackaliciousX @Dugular As a graphic designer, and avid gamer I've seen a lot of tools, and I've worked with as well e.g. 3Dstudio max, Maya, even got to play with a games engine a few times etc..., There are reasons they don't dish out mod tools like part of a 6-pack. EA is the one pulling the strings, Frostbite 2 is a next generation engine. Times are different, what keeps them ahead of the competitors in what is in it for them. As much as I would love to tinker with the Frostbite2 engine, I dare not touch it. Mods are great but don't mess with a good game.

@shockersousa It looks amazing on the PC, but I'm really worried about the console versions. I mean, if you drop the number of players from 60 to 24 in multiplayer, then you should at least maintain video quality, right? Well, I'm guessing consoles won't be able to do that much, and if they don't, then I'm really not interested. Which is why it would be good to have modding tools, but I know that's something hard to do, specially for the console versions

Exactly how is DICE calling modders stupid. I think they have a point because if they did ship BF3 with modding tools and if it is too complex for a modder than whats the point of modding tools, it would just be a dissapointment and people wold start complaing to DICE "BF3 is too hard too mod". Personaly i dont care about modding for BF3 because it already looks amazing.

@BlackaliciousX Exactly. They'll release the mod tools after they've sold all the DLC.

So what if you think it is too advanced for people to work with? Let somebody have time with it and anything is possible.

Will you people give it a break about this decision. There is soo much to this game that it’s a little unfair to be so demanding. He didn’t say there will never be MOD support. He just said that ” As of now, we are not going to make any modding tools” Just like BF2. It didn’t come out right after game release but later down the road it came out. And another thing, people using mods to create new stuff is like .1%. So this is not a huge crowd. It makes sense to build/finish the game for the other .99% of people who will actually pay for all the hard word Dice has down with this game that took 4 years to build.

@106473 Have you heard of Counter Strike? Even if the mods are very complex, I argue there are at least a few out there that could create a mod "worthy" for the masses to play if provided the creation tools that DICE is using to create Battlefield 3 as we speak. Furthermore, even if nothing directly tangible is produced, there are many who would find great value in just attempting to manipulate the game- who knows what may come from that. Additionally, games that allow user modifications can experience an increased profitability and longevity not to mention potential profitable investments for the orignal company (see counter strike), I just do not see how it would hurt to release the tool kit to the public. The end users (ourselves) have the option to download or ignore any modifications anyways. To me, it appears DICE doesn't want user modifications to compete with its already planned and probably produced $DLC.

@ @106473 who said "They are not calling you stupid they just bet you don't have the expertise to deal with the game engine, its not the old pick up and place things where ever you please. It is serious work that should be left to them at Dice." You obviously haven't had much exposure to the PC modding community. The Elder Scrolls toolkit and Far Cry 2's level editor are like baby's toys to those guys. Take a look at some mods for games that didn't even advertise any method of modding and then rethink your statement :) I mean, PC users got to have multiplayer in GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas long before GTAIV thanks to modders.

No mods. A classic example of how the companies are turning games into more a money making business than they should be. Games use to be about player enjoyment and facilitating the means for players to find/create their own enjoyment, now it's all 'enjoy what we tell you to enjoy. We're not letting you do otherwise'. At least Bethesda understand this. Mostly, anyway. I get the impression they let all Elder Scroll games be modded because if they don't, their games would lose most of their 'keep playing' value.

Why not just add the mod tools, and let the modders decide if it's going to be difficult for them or not? They won't know until they try, might as well let them have a shot at it.

@St1ckyB4ndit yes that was "ONE OF the advantages" to playing on pc, if I read your comment correctly.... Implying there are more then just that one :P a)mouse and keyboard (though some will disagree.. still my fav for fps's) b)higher fidelity graphics c)dedicated servers d)the fact that someone is probably going to do something to mod it anyways despite what EA/Dice say... there's always a computer geek, geekier than you (that's what I always say) :P

That's another reason to stick with consoles for Battlefield 3 because you can't even mod which was one of the advantages PC gamers got over then console gamers.

@Speuj Maybe when they meant complicated, they meant something like if you tried to mod, it would completely screw up the game and everything to the point where you'd have to do something like reinstall the game? But there would be a way, it's just super complicated and if you did something wrong it would really screw up? And just 'cause you can't mod doesn't mean you shouldn't like DICE as much or their respect. Lot's of games can't allow you to mod, and any game on consoles don't allow you to mod.

Nice to see Duke Nukem has a new job doing voice overs for Resident Evil Mercenaries. Most Likely Dice don't have much of a say in releasing Modding tools, EA won't want to affect their precious DLC sales and of course heaven forbid that PC gamers get lots of free multiplayer maps that the consoles can't have.

Just one thing, thank God Leona Lewis won't be in it! That soundtrack was a disgrace and a BRUTAL miss on the part of the FF team.

Wow... nice. You'd think they'd just let the mod community judge for themselves that it's too complicated. I bet you anything it's just 'too complicated for them' to actually put the tools together in a cohesive package and they just don't want to bother. God forbid they admit that, so let's blame the people who will be buying the game instead. My respect for Dice has now been effectively lowered...
