this is what we need more from Gamespot and other sites... recommendations/tips when games (especially shooters or stealth games) are better on the higher/highest setttings!!.. well done Gamespot!
(since not all shooters/games are better on the higher settings for the 1st playthru)
Best FPS single player campaign I have played in years. Too bad that this game got less customers than Battlefield 1. These two games deserves the same respect, and I have them both!
Games should test your skill and keep you sharp, plus usually playing on the hardest setting is the most fun. This is no exception, the game is serious fun.
@slappy54: I have played Doom. Believe me, despite the fact that I have enjoyed Doom a lot, Titanfall 2 has a very challenging, more original and crazy levels than Doom.
Both are really awesome games, but picking only one side is not a clever move if you are a real gamer.
By the way, I have got a "Game over" screen more in Titanfall 2 campaign than in Doom playing at identical difficulty level.
Just listened to the best reviewer on YT(ACG) say hard mode(he checks AI on all difficulties) that Hard mode here is like easy mode on every other shooter.
@me3639: Thats strange. I like his reviews but it doesnt mean that all of them are 100% correct.
Titanfall 2 campaign is the most challenging game I have played in past few years (FPS genre).
AI sometimes do dumb decisions, but they are scripted very well in teams and attack from all flanks. Developers picked good strategy that caused me to fail some stages at many levels many times and try to pick a different aproach, which is not a common case in FPS genre.
@santinegrete: I agree. If a game isn't challenging, then I get bored very fast. I have never even started any game on normal difficulty. I have no idea how easy normal mode would be? All I know is that when I play games on hard mode, it's never very hard. And I'm well below average when it comes to gaming skills. So I don't know who would be playing any game on normal mode?
@Zombie8814: You ever see my GF play? Tried to play gears of war with her and she couldn't control the camera angle.. she was all over the place. I think casual and easy are for those people.
I usually find playing games on high difficulty way more enjoyable. It forces you to make better use of the gameplay mechanics and many times think before act.
Naturally though, it can work backwards sometimes when a game is poorly balanced or a glitch of some sort kills you. But overall it's worth it.
@phili878: To be honest I don't quite remember about the second one, I played all of them on legendary. I remember getting pissed a lot on Reach though, because of that regenerating shield the covenant uses.
Thus far what I've experienced is massive cheating, being killed out of nowhere constantly with no definable enemy being there. and poor enemy geography. I don't know where I'm being shot from
Virtually every game is best on the hardest unlocked difficulty. There are maybe a handful of exceptions, where you might want to beat a level on normal or so before bumping up the difficulty. What is the point of waltzing through a game, especially if you have paid for it?
More games need a "realistic" setting, where you and your enemies have comparable health and comparable damage. Most harder difficulty settings just increase the hp pool of your enemies while either making them do more damage or giving you less health.
@BlueRaptor7: That really pisses me off when they try to make a game more difficult by making the AI almost impossible to kill , I walk up to you and shoot you with a shotgun at point blank range and you are still standing there it just feels so fake.
@yukushi: You can thank console gaming for that. Auto-aim was never a thing that existed until gamepads came around, and then consoles became more popular than PC gaming so all new games were designed with consoles in mind rather than continuing the PC tradition of skill based shooters. For about a decade now PC games have felt too easy on the hardest difficulty because they were made to be completed using a gamepad.
@Psycold: True that. I play every shooter on the highest difficulty now. Even in BF1 the AI on the hardest difficulty is like playing against morons online.
@Rushaoz: Yeah. The AI in Battlefield games on single player is really bad. It's like you're going against an army of retards. Really ruins the experience.
@cyril_ryser: some people need to listen when they play wrongly a game, like playing Infamous or Vanquish like it was Gears of War (ie using cover a lot of time).
@Rushaoz: Aiming with a mouse sure is easy. Too easy is the problem. I like a little bit of a challenge. Console controller with auto-aim disabled is the only way to play. ***Single player that is.*** Using a controller in multiplayer would get you killed quickly if your opponents are using a mouse.
@mickpunx: It's funny, people say hard is the only way to play...easy is for losers...blah blah blah
But then they want the easiest control scheme...M/KB. It's hypocritical. If the goal was for more of a challenge wouldn't a controller be the way to go?
Anyone can point and click. Takes skill to whip around with that analog stick and stop in an enemy. BTW, not every game has aim assist, Gears 4 for example.
@mickpunx: No not at all lol everyone has the same advantage. Even worse, some people have super high DPI mice and great keyboards lol everyone on console for the most part has the same controller.
Typically, I find normal settings too easy, but the hardest setting just a tad too much; so I tend to go with the second to hardest setting in between when it's offered. I'll give this a try on hardest when I start it up tonight.
@artemis-v: Unless you're playing Call of Duty on Veteran mode, the hardest setting on any game is never very hard. Call of Duty on veteran mode doesn't feel so much hard, as it it feels cheap. You basically have to memorize where the enemy is located if you want to advance. I don't have the time or patience for that kind of bullshit.
