Cool, but I don't understand what this means. Will Hannibal's army be a computer controlled invasion, like the Mongols in Medieval 2 (maybe 1 as well but not played it), or a playable faction?
But did anyone else feel it's a bit weird to see elephants walking through snow in the Alps? I would've thought they can't survive in those conditions. Anyone know if that is the case?
Those War Elephants - always a talking point in Game spot videos
@jpaul0983 There was once done an experiment, where some people tried crossing the alps with an elephant. They succeeded and the elephant was fine. In fact it was an circus elephant and it liked all that exercise that it got crossing the Alps.
@jpaul0983 Actually Hannibal crossed the Alps with his army (including war elephants),some elephants died, but most of them made it trough alive. So,yes,it is weird, but possible.
Only that Haninbal wasn't an amazing leader, and he did lose half of his army to attrition and desertion. He had Rome in his grasp, but decided to eff around instead. When Rome got tired and attacked his capital city he hurried back only to be defeated.
it's a shame that after those many years CA wasn't able to provide a real army at hands to fight (LEGIONS, not half a legion which is ridiculous). 20 cohorts in 2003, 40 cohorts in 2013....a ...real "progres"...:D
BTW, I don't buy the bullshit "well we wanted to concentrate about the playing , to the player demands etc". They never listne what WE want, WE who pay for their salary. They do what they want and they say they hear fans' wishes..Baaah!
@prince__vlad It's not only a matter of quantity, it is also a matter of quality. The details and in general the graphics are far better now. None, or at least very few, would prefer 10 legions of "2003 units" over the 40 cohorts of "2013 units". By the way, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that each legion had around 40 cohorts (not sure about the exact number and to lazy to google it). So we can enjoy battle with "legions" - each army a legion, you can have more that one army in the field (at least 2) so you can have legions in the battlefield.
@prince__vlad Do you really think 32,000 units at the same time is small??? tell me one game that can pull those numbers. And if you tweak it you can get 64,000 units at the same time on the battlefield, that is unheard of.
"A high-spec machine can enjoy up to 32,000 units on the battlefield during a single real-time encounter. If you’re seeking further glory and are willing to push your PC harder than your legionaries, Jamie casually mentioned you can tweak the preference files to double that number to 64,000."
Are you saying that unit sizes are too small? If so, they really have to cater to the majority of their fans who simply can't run a game with 10 thousand units. For those who can there will no doubt be a mod that raises the unit size.
WOW! I just had to have found a girlfriend right when this was coming out (definitely not complaining, I'm just saying--she's a 10 after all). I hope I get some time to give this a solid round. Rome is by far the best of the Total War series (no guns)! I can't wait to send my Legions across the known world, and then my Spartans for a second playthrough.
@Devils-DIVISION Just lie to her lie to her nonstop, best thing you can do in a relationship.
GF:"Is there any place you want to be other then with me right now?"
U: (Rome Total War 2)"Naw babe only place in the world."
GF: "Why did it take you so long to call me back?"
U: (Rome Total War 2) "Got caught up after work you know how it is*fake smile*"
GF: "How bout we go see a movie Friday?"
U: "Can't babe going to be up tell like 4am in the morning playing Rom.. *cough* *cough* with this project I'm working on you just go to bed and relax."
@Jamoid Oh man it's already begun--5 days to reply. Haha, yeah although she actually is 10... nah jokes! But you're spot on with the pre-gun/gunpowder era.
@ @OldKye Haha! Nice. But if it fails, I'll say it's your fault--she'll hunt you down man!
@OldKye @Devils-DIVISION Yep, it's gonna be proper hermit style for me. Sitting in my cave living on strong coffee, nutella and glorious slaughter. Human contact will not be required. **** explaining that to anyone remotely normal, I'll go with harmless white lies.
@Devils-DIVISION Hah, for a moment I thought you said your girlfriend is 10. I also completely agree, I'm interested in most eras but definitely prefer pre-gun history, at least when it comes to the combat. Far less visceral and epic.
@Zeus149 No, he would have looked something like modern Jews or Arabs, since they were Semitic. Phoenicians from what is today Lebanon founded Carthage.
@Zeus149 He was phoenician, a people hailing from the middle east, therefor he was certainly NOT black. Also, northern Africa was mostly inhabited by berbers, a people that aren´t black either.
@Kingbee NOT all people in Italy were white. NOT all Roman rulers, were white, either. But everything is about race for white people. Hannibal, was black, though. Every ancient description and portrayal of him, displays him as such. I took a trip to Libya, and saw first hand proof. Get over it. It's sad how people try to devalue any black man of note. A few thousands years from now, some guy like you, is going to say, "Barack Obama wasn't black. He had a WHITE mother."
