if it is anything like the controls from the one from ps1 you assign each character to a button and their set attacks are based on the weapon's number of attacks available such as 3 or 2 attacks allowed in one combo. so if the weapon only has 1,2 or 3 attacks, the character that wields the weapons can only attack as many times as specified. then their next turn they can attack the same amount of times unless they change weapons during combat which also takes one turn.
