Who the Hell is Bushmaster | Luke Cage Season 2

Marvel's Luke Cage is back for Season 2 and that means he'll be facing off against a new villain. Here's everything you need to know about Bushmaster from the comics.

Bushmaster's first appeared in Iron Fist #15, released in 1977. Raised in poverty as John McIver, he and his brother Quincy had to steal to survive. His petty thievery lead him into the world of organized crime, where he climbed ladders in Europe and New York and took on the name "Bushmaster." Bushmaster often clashed with Luke Cage and Iron Fist in the comics, but his true enemy was Misty Knight, who earned her place on Bushmasters hit list by thwarting his plans to assassinate Danny Rand.

In the comics, the operation that gave Bushmaster his powers was very similar to the one that Luke Cage underwent, which explains why they appear to have comparable powers. The operation gave him even more strength and durability than Luke Cage, but unfortunately for him, the effects were a bit too strong. Bushmaster's skin and muscle continued to harden until finally, he became completely solid and shattered, leaving only a skeleton behind.

Bushmaster, played by Mustafa Shakir, will take on the role of the central villain in this season of Luke Cage and we're all hoping he gets a more climactic end to his story. If you want to find out more details about Bushmaster, check out Greg's video above.
