Wolfenstein 2 Director Talks About The Game's Most Famous Scene

Mike chats with Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus Creative Director, Jens Matthias, about the development of his games' most infamous scene.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus released last year to critical acclaim, due in large part to its fantastic shooter mechanics, but also its story. In the video above, GameSpot's Mike Mahardy speaks with creative director Jens Matthies about one of the game's most famous scenes.

You can also watch the full interview in the video below. Matthies discusses the opportunities his team had when bringing the game to Nintendo Switch, as well as his outlook on the reboot as a whole. The New Colossus is a bombastic, momentous, touching game, and we were happy to go in-depth with Matthies while he was in San Francisco.

For more on the shooter, you can read our Wolfenstein II review. More recently, the game has made its way to Nintendo Switch, where it's intact--although, as you can read about in our Switch review, playing in handheld mode poses some technical problems. That said, if you're able to play on a TV, you're in for a good time.

"As long as you're able to play the entire game in docked mode, The New Colossus is the same fantastic game it is on other platforms," Kallie Plagge wrote. "It runs well and, despite some minor visual compromises, it still looks pretty good. Handheld mode is unfortunately far less optimized, and the Joy-Cons simply don't feel as good to use as the Pro Controller. If Switch is your only way to play it, The New Colossus is absolutely worth your time--just not on the go."

We need a Wolfenstein III (after Youngblood spin-off) and we need to fight Mecha-Hitler after defeating Wilhelm Strasse in New Order and Frau Engel in New Colossus.

Even though the Nintendo Switch port may not stand up perfectly to its Playstation/X box One counterparts (unless it’s in dock mode.) I still think the emergence of more and more 3rd party support on Nintendo’s latest console is both a great thing and a monumental achievement for the big N.

Hopefully titles like these sell well and prove to Nintendo that investing in good 3rd party support is something fans will not only appreciate but seek out in the future.

Too bad it can't run that well if you're not docked, but at least this game and some more gamers got the chance of each other. More accesibility to a great game is always great.
