Henshin a go go baby!
You take the role of a kid named (suprise suprise) Joe who one day goes to the cinema with his girlfriend who is called Sylvia and watch one of Joe's favourite movie icons Captain Blue. All of a sudden things start to turn bad as Sylvia is suddenly kidnapped and taken into a virtual movie world in the cinema screen and its up to Joe to save the day...but how when he can't go into the movie world himself?
Thats when Captain Blue gives you his assistance and then before you know it you will gradually start to gain powers known as VFX powers which give you special abilites such as slow motion or mach speed to use against your enemies. But of course you can't be average Joe to access those powers you have to be Viewtiful Joe!
This plot will certainly appeal to anyone younger than 8 but older people like me will probably not care and just play the game as normal regardless. Nevertheless enough of plot lets talk about the games many great features!
The graphics are a recently new sort known as cell shading and looks rather stylish on your TV set as well when compared to the modern style 3D visuals of other games. Still even though its 2D you can't help but be amazed at the some of the visual effects that the game uses and when you turn corners in levels its like your playing a cool extrapolated version of a gigantic comic book rather than a computer game!
Gameplay wise there is a lot to enjoy throughout and you can even customise Joe with new moves and weapons that add a good RPG style element to the mix.
Suprisingly the game does get quite difficult as you progress into the later stages and you often might be getting killed a couple of times by the bosses if your not up to scratch with your reflex skills in the game.
As I said earlier the VFX powers are the coolest things in the game but also extremely useful as you need them to figure out puzzles in the stages and also make it easier for you to fight your foes and the bosses. You can even do things like dodge missles in slow motion and turn enemies on fire if your in mach speed which makes the game rock! In all this is a really good and creative game that is well worth checking out.
