Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution is the single greatest fighting game on the PS2. For all the hype being generated about Soul Calibur 2, this really is the game you need to get, over and above Namco's weapons based brawler. It has the most depth in any PS2 fighter to date, the best gameplay, and a price tag that you'd have to be absolutely insane to pass up on. It's not for casual, scrublike players however. While Soul Calibur 2 is aimed at all the casual players, attracting them with bright lights, nice characters, pretty graphics and a gameplay style that makes you look better than you actually are, VF 4 Evolution is aimed at people who actually love fighting games. Seriously, there's so much diversity to the gameplay, and every character fights in a unique way. Once you get even halfway decent at the game, every match becomes an absolute joy to play, and you'll never resort to hammering on buttons to get that 'last hit'. Hammering buttons will get you nailed, and the strategic depth to the game is not an obstacle to be overcome - it's an absolute joy waiting to be embraced. I love fighting games, and I love Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution. Get it as soon as humanly possible. You'll love it too.
