Wallace & Gromit: Project Zoo Review
User Rating: 8.5 | Wallace & Gromit in Project Zoo PS2
As being, hopefully, one of Wallace and Gromit's biggest fans, I loved this title from the Wallace and Gromit franchise cannon. You may be thinking I'm coming from a biast point of view, but, genuinely, I think that Project Zoo is a fully enjoyable game, and not only because I am a fan. The story of Project Zoo delightfully follows on the tracks of the orginial Wallace and Gromit short films. The storyline keeps with the inventive flair of classic Wallace and Gromit animation, and the surreal twists and turns that Wallace and Gromit tend to do, and, the classic British mannerisms still appear strong in the game. On one level, Gamespot is right about Project Zoo being a rather basic platformer, the levels you ponder around in, are highly imaginitive, and keep the small, plasticine feel and charm of the Wallace and Gromit films. As always, the writing in Wallace and Gromit's adventures, in this game, it's even better. The evil penguin in the Wrong Trousers who is called, Feathers McGraw, one of the most popular Wallace and Gromit villians, is the villian! There are loads of minni-games in Project Zoo. One including playing as Gromit, and you are sliding, trying to hit and pop as many balloons as you can. The minni-games are a lot of fun, despite sometimes not many, it still is a memorable experince.
Project Zoo does have its flaws, though. In the game, the missions are pretty much always the same, despite it being faithfully linked to the story, the missions could of have had more variety. The missions mostly are just finding contraptions to trigger to free an animal from Feathers McGraw's evil clutches. The camera-work is nothing remarkable in this game. The camera is very plain and streamline; and does nothing iconic to its' gameplay. Speaking of gameplay; Project Zoo still is a very basic platformer, the gameplay could of had more to it's gameplay, to get the real Wallace and Gromit hit. The graphics are good, and the characters look at least look consistent. The game could have had much more smoother animation in the process of the game.
Overall, Wallace and Gromit: Project Zoo is the most fun and the best Wallace and Gromit video game title, and will hopefully appeal to die-hard fans of the pair, such as myself.
