Let's have a war!

Back in '94 i had no internet so i relied on videogame-magazines for information on games. I was already familiar with command & conquer and this game seemed like a fun fantasy version of c&c. With no internet i only played the campaigns against the computer, much like c&c and like c&c you could play two campaigns, one with the good guys, one with the bad guys. By clicking on the mouse i quickly was making an amy of slaves to work in mines and collect wood. This enabled me to create foot soldiers, cavalry and artillery (catapults). Also i could upgrade the weapons and deploy wizards later in the game. The game was not very difficult. Like c&c it was important to protect the labour force and the arttillery. Once my own army was big enough i would annihilate enemy precence by force in numbers . The best part of the game was not so much winning, but simply clicking on a unit and having it respond. It was kinda new then. The review i read in this magazine was just one page somewhere in the back. It didn't get much attention. Like games as Mortal Kombat or Final Fantasy this game has become some kind of monster on it's own, much bigger then command & conquer. There's the mmorpg, a movie, sequels, merchandising... And it started all with this: a quite limited realtime strategygame. Funny in a way.
