After almost 2 years, the game is shaping up to what it should have been at release.
I so *wanted* to love Warhammer: Age of Reckoning but I just can't.
"Why not?" You ask. Excellent question, allow me to explain:
The game balance just wasn't there for a long, long time (still isn't but it's better), the city sieges were horrible for over a year (fun fun now). Upsides? Why, certainly! The graphics were just what I expected, the animations are cool, the voice acting is good, the different races story lines are great. Then why not like it?
Well, as I said, city sieges were horrible for so, so long. Basically you had to play CTF and not so much fight other players, which the game is revolving around. Now, they redesigned the game so you actually DO fight other players in the city sieges, and now the sieges are awesomesauce. Now they are in 3 stages, and you always go through all three.
Stage 1: the attackers have to take over certain key locations, which adds to the time they have to reach and breach the city gates. The defenders? Well, stop them from breaching the city gates.
Stage 2: Now you have to kill the opposing sides 2 NPC champions and defend your own, making sure that 1 of your champions reaches the gate of the opposing side. If all champs die, the stage is tied.
Stage 3: Now you have to kill the opposing factions general (NPC). But before you can do that, you have to defeat his 4 champions (super buffed players). Guess what happens in all stages? RvR/PvP galore. It. Is. Fun.
Class balance leaves a lot to be desired. Healers heal too well, range dps (except the Shadow Warrior) does too much damage.
That leaves Melee dps and tanks SOL.
The game now has an unlimited trial, so if you haven't tried it you should. The bad reputation the game developed at launch just doesn't stick anymore. Give it a shot. The trial is free after all, so you lose nothing. Come on. You know you want to.
