The Watchmen: The End is Nigiht Complete experience is very disappointing.
Before I begin I want to point out that I've finished all of part 1 and I am currently working my way through Part 2 of the game.
Good:
The voice overs are great since they're done by the actors from the movie.
Graphics are okay. They could be better. Variations in environments and character designs would have been nice.
Camera controls work.
Cutscenes are similar to the animated version of the comic.
Co-op works fine. I do not enjoy online games and thus the lack of online multiplayer does not bother me.
Bad:
Bad Pacing. My biggest problem with the game is the way its setup. The game consists of you pummeling endless hordes of enemies and occasionally unlocking some door. You end up going through several rooms of enemies and door locks before you get one tiny sliver of information pertaining to the story. After awhile you fingers get tired and you just simply want the game to end.
Story. The game might would have been worth playing through if the story was divulged faster and if it was actually interesting. I mostly found myself bored with the story.
1 Bad Repetitive Boss fight. (Pt.1) The boss fight in t he game is very disappointing. The game basically told me how to fight the boss at the end of the game. I do not enjoy being given directions. Anyway, the boss fight consisted of the same pummel him to death routine. The only variation was that I had to not walk into the fire of the flame thrower and that I had to throw enemies at the guy to get him off a bunch of metal pipes. I did this about 100 times and the game eventually ended. I also want to point out that during this battle the AI Nite Owl on my team did not seem to be doing any sort of damage to the boss.
Controls. Its hard for me to complete long attack combos. At the most I find myself getting off three hit combos and nothing more. I've even taken the time to practice the longer combos in the tutorial mode of the game. I have a very hard time getting them to work on the dummy character that stays still. Completing the combos against moving characters in the actual game is near around impossible. My inability to to complete combos is also hindered by the fact that you seem to randomly switch targets during battle. This is quite painful when you're trying to complete trophies that require you to chain attacks.
No mini-map & lack of original environments. There is no mini-map in the game to show you where you are. Since several rooms in the levels are almost 100% identical, you end up getting confused as to where you should go. This tends to happen to me while I'm fighting. I'll fight all around the room and I won't have any idea as to which way to go because I can't remember which way I came in the room.
Note: It seems that in part 2 you can tap L1 and it will show you where to go. I haven't tested to see if this works for Part 1.
Overall. I don't recommend that you pickup this game. If you enjoyed the demo, play the demo and be satisified with that. There is no reason for you to fork out the money for a game with clunky controls and repetitive gameplay.
