Let me just start by saying Wild 9 to me was one of the most witty, original and charming games for the ps. About ¾ of this game is played sidescroller style, only instead of having to simply shoot your enemies, you get a nice little contraption dubbed “the rig.” The rig operates kind of like a reversed grappling hook, once you “hook” an enemy with it you can do whatever you want with the poor sucker, throw him into a grinder, flip him off a cliff, or simply smash him on the ground repeatedly, This concept, as you can imagine, allows for some wicked fun boss fights. But that’s not all, the whole game is drenched with a fresh and comical feel to it. The main character, Wes, sounds like he belongs in the sixties, with catchphrases such as “like COOL’ and “Wexellant”, I’m not sure why the gamespot reviewer thought this was a bad thing, I thought it was pretty damn funny. Unfortunately the games sound and graphics weren’t all that great, just average pretty much sums up those categories. In conclusion, if you just happen to see this game in the 5$ bin, do yourself a favor and buy it, otherwise you’ll miss out on a real classic.
