A game that leaves a somewhat bitter aftertaste...
My first impression of the game was that it was an average title, and I guess it's not far from the truth. The graphics were not good, but not ugly either. I didn't like the fact that the main character was a kid, and I came to like him even less as the story progressed on. There are only 4 party members in total, so you are stuck with them the entire game. And personally, I had trouble caring about any of them.
There were a few shining moments in the game, but overshadowed by the fact that the game is often very boring. Most of time you follow a very linear path, and once in a while you solve puzzles in a big room/area and maybe go out of your way a little bit for treasures and such, fight bosses, move on to the next dungeon. Even with the unique battle system, going through battle after battle was a yawn.
The most frustrating aspect was the difficulty in leveling up near the end. Unless you hunt down specific types of enemies and use items to increase the exp you earn at the end of the battle, it takes forever to just move on to the next level. The gaps between levels at that point are huge, and each battle (they are not easy either) nets you only a meager amount.
If that isn't bad enough, there are monsters with the ability to make you lose all the exp you earned since the last level-up, and often there is no time to run away before they use it. I was on a particular bridge with lots of those monsters, and they were really ruthless with making me lose my hard-earned exp. After no less than 15 resets, it was the last straw, and I turned off that game for good.
Overall, an uninteresting and unbalanced game coupled with unlikable characters. I recommend only playing this if you absolutely have no other RPGs to play.
