One of the best games ever.

Space dogfighting opens up lots of doors not available to other games. With this genre you really get to take the best of WW2 style combat and mix it with whatever other factors will make a game thrilling. The genre really died when producers realized they could get more money by selling games that didn't require a joystick.

But think about it, there was no 3D rendering back then, they actually DREW the spaceships. Why aren't we doing this nowadays? The graphics were ugly back then cause we didn't have the processor power to render them well. Starlancer did a good job though, and it was pretty much the last quality game in the genre to be produced.

This game compensates for poor graphics in every way it knows how. Everything lacked in style is made up in substance, which got thrown out the window as soon as the gaming community knew how. They developed an amazingly good plot, and the software actually came with a load of immersive documentation.

I don't think anyone would be impressed by this game now if they didn't play it back then, which is why someone really needs to rescue it with some modern version. I've met others who feel the same.
