Incredible. A Galactic sandbox game before the term sandbox had ever been applied to video games. A choice of ships that you could fully customize. Choices, thats what Privateer had. Want to be a pirate and hijack everything in space? Go ahead. Smuggle contraband? Sure. Follow the storyline? If you want (and if you can find the planet you're looking for). I burned up hour after hour, day after day on my old 486 and my Gravis Phoenix with this game and its cousins in the Wing Commander series, and I must say that I miss the genre of space combat immensely, and Privateer was one of my favorites. This game was a great blend of exploration, commerce, and space combat for its time, and I preferred it over its sequel. I just wish that someone would revive Origin from the ashes so they could remake this wonderful game.
