One of the best classic games ever!

Wing Commander is a game with just the perfect mix of action and storyline. You play as a rookie pilot who is learning the ropes while being thrown into combat against the Kilrathi. Thankfully, the game starts out rather easy at first so that you can get into it. However, as the game progresses, you learn more about the characters and how to fight against various Kilrathi ships. The game does get more difficult toward the end, but the payoff for completing the game is huge! It was probably one of the most rewarding games I have ever completed.

That said, I also want to comment on the graphics and sound. At the time the game was released in 1990, these were revolutionary. I remember I purchased my first Sound Blaster just because of this game. Also, the fact that you were flying against "3D sprites" made the experience even more appealing. Wing Commander in my mind will stand out as one of the best classic games of all time.
