R.I.P. Wipeout.
I'll admit this game looks great, but that is really the only good thing I have to say about it.
This game starts off easy enough, but it gets really hard, really fast. While playing an early race for about the 15th time trying to get a gold I came to realize that it didn't matter how well I piloted my ship or for that matter which ship I used the game simply would not allow me to gain any ground on my opponents, on my final attempt I was leading for most of the race only to have the four CPU controlled racers shoot past me on final stretch as though I were standing still.
Good graphics do not equal good games. Can they add to the experience? Sure. However, it doesn't matter how good a game looks it needs to be fun to play first and foremost, something many developers today seem to have forgotten.
The music in the game is just more of what you would expect from a Wipeout game, thankfully you have the option to use custom soundtracks, which is a plus.
Playability - In previous games in the series, piloting the ships while not perfect was far better than in this installment. Often what should be the easiest of turns is difficult here.
Where is the speed? This is by far the slowest Wipeout game I've ever played. The ships are just flat out slow, only picking up real speed when you fly over a speed pad or use the proper item.
Overall this one is very disappointing, I wish Sony had put up a demo to this waste before I had wasted my money on it.
