Wipeout back again, with online play and new features
Gameplay: 7.5/10
This is quite a low score, which maybe is a little harsh, but im comparing it to Pure. The controls are a little clunkier for the driving which makes iit a bit difficult to contorl your ships, and the tracks are pretty awful, they are too narrow and just seemed to be rushed. Hopefully there will be some better ones in the download pack
However this is my only complaint. The weapons are better, and they make it not just a game of racing skill, but add some strategy to it too.
Then there are the new race modes. While tournament, zone, single race and time trial all return, there is now an addition of elimination, speed lap and head to head.
speed lap is like time trial except its just your best lap thats counted, not the overall time. You are given 7 laps and your best one is the time that gods forward.
Elimination is the best new addition. Using the weapons you must attempt to destrroy ten other vehicles. The first to ten wins, and it can be very lenghty if you pick up the wrong weapons.
Head to head is basically just a normal race, except there are no weapons and your only against one other opponent.
The way you unlock and gain races is good. You have a series of grids and each grid has uoto 16 events. You can get three points from an event, one for bronze, two for silver and three for gold. When you have gained enough points you gain a new grid. It is much better than pure in this respect.
When you use a ship team you gain loyalty points. When you gain enough you can unlock new skins for the team. Although its possible to make your own online, its extremely difficult and complicated, I cant seem to do it.
Sound: 10/10. The sound effects and voices are great and fuuristic with a poor soundtrack. soundtrack doesnt matter though as you can pick 30 songs from your memory stick to listen to in game instead. So the sound is only as good as you make it. I have black metal and ff music on mine.
lifespan: 50 hours + would take a good forty hours to do everything to a gold standard, if you have the inclination. The online is also great. It is easy to find a game and there is hardly any lag at all. There is only single race and tournament, no elimination, but it may come in the first update.
The online can also be used to publish lap times and results on the world wide leaderboard so you can see where you rank
Graphics: 10/10Not much of an improbvement on pure but the graphics on pure were so near perfect there wasnt a lot to improve on. 10/10 no dispute, just glorious. explosions, ships, tracks, all is presented well
overall: 8/10
