For any older gamers that lament the fact that today's games aren't like the games they used to play, play Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. I played the original Wolfenstein 3D (shareware version) and every version since. This game has old school mechanics (picking up health and armor like in Wolfenstein 3D), but modern gameplay and graphics. It's a lot of fun and who doesn't like to shoot Nazis?!
About the only bad part is that there are times when you lose your weapons and have to scrounge for new ones before you get killed. It's a minor annoyance.
