A Frantic, Solid Zombie Survival Co-Op Game

User Rating: 7 | World War Z PS4

World War Z as a film starring Brad Pitt in it, a film adaptation of the book World War Z by Max Brooks was an enjoyable film, but more memorable book. A few years later we get World War Z, the game and the online co-op mode of surviving hordes of running zombies. As one of four characters in each episode set in four real-world locations and stories; New York, Moscow, Jerusalem and even Toyko. Working as a team you must move through the city with specific objectives to complete whilst coming across new weapons, supplies and ammunition.

Replayability is paramount here with the game, as the co-op mode has five levels of difficulty for each episode and their corresponding chapters. This pushes you to replay the levels on higher difficulty with online players, more challenging and frantic the game has a lot of content including a competitive multiplayer mode. Rewards for completing higher difficult levels include credits to upgrade and customize you weapons, then through several skill trees you can specialize in a class that truly aids your group, with unique skills and weapons.

The adrenaline you feel when fighting off a climbing horde of zombies on a towerblock, or climbing onto a bridge in their hundreds is one of the most intense moments I've felt in a zombie-survival game for a while. Frantic action, teamwork and special weapons truly set a match out for memory.

The Good:

- Solid action-driven co-op gameplay, working together a team of four with specialist skills to survive city-set missions.

- Graphically the game is solid, and terrifying when the game throws swarms of zombies at you and your team, frame rates hold up even when hundreds of zombies descend on you.

- Extensive weapons systems, upgrading and customizing with in-game credits used also to upgrade you skill classes.

- Various levels of difficulty for episodes, offering replayability and rewards.

- Fairly priced at just £35, upon release with it's content its a fair price for a complete game.

The Bad:

- Only four episodes, I would have preferred several episodes of other cities.

- The occasional visual bug, but it does not truly effect the game.

World War Z is a budget title, but a solid one and what it promises it gives you for a fair price. Sometimes you can lose hours in the game, challenging yourself to up the difficulty on the maps and that is what makes a great game, a game that pulls you back in with replayability. That's when you know you have got value for your money with a game.
