"It's Worm World War"

User Rating: 8 | Worms: Open Warfare 2 PSP
Presentation
Worms Open Warfare 2 delivers a clear presentation in this game, with an easy to use menu and profile creator which allows you to create more than user profiles but battle schemes too. You have a lot of customization in the game, from battle schemes to maps and even your own set of worms can be customized in your own style. There is something difficult about this and it is the map customization, because map creation is not as easy as it would be in the Nintendo DS version with an stylus, though downloadable content is there to allow players increase their amount of battle lands. And the inclusion of a shop allows players to unlock more maps, weapons and customization items. Sound is really great as for sound effects and background score, it matches the game in every way.

Design
Worms are just worms, so there is not much in design that could be said. Worms Open Warfare 2 delivers great 2D graphics on the PSP, detailed 2D Objects, Weapons and the Worms themselves look nice. There is a little problem and it is that as the maps are really big some objects become very small when you zoom out to check all the map, but it is something that couldn't be avoided. A feature of every map that is really cool is that almost every one of them has a side effect as for example the Moon landscape suffers from gravity where your worms will have a hard time throwing grenades. Something that must be said here is that there are new weapons for this game as magnets and buffalo of lies, but there are weapons that have disaapeared too as is the case with the funny baseball bat.

Story
There is not a lot of story here and it's not good but neither bad. The small amount of story here shows your worms being in battle against other worms and as they reclaim victory they are so lucky or must I say unlucky, to be captured by something which take you to the next level and another battle in World War history. What is very cool here is that every war in world history including cold war, world war 1 and 2 has been recreated here, Worms style!

Gameplay
Gameplay is very simple as you take turns with your team to destroy the opponent's team. Here you have full control of your map view with the left and right triggers which allow you to zoom in and out, and the analog nub lets you scroll the view to any part of the map while the Dpad moves your worms. Triangle helps you for some actions like change direction of air strikes, switch between magnet types; square allows you to jump and backflip jump, circle displays your full arsenal, and X is the attack button.
Game modes are plenty, even though the single campign is not as long as you would like, you have a lot of multiplayer options like deathmatch, forts (team deathmatch), rope racing, and jetpack racing to play via adhoc or infraestructure and even hot seat. It is very dissapointing that the adhoc mode doesn't support game sharing at all, it only allows a player to send a demo of WOW2 to another player. The infraestructure mode doesn't do much well for the game since it has a lot of issues when playing and requires a lot of internet speed to have a decent game. The fun factor comes at the hands of the Hot seat mode, which allows up to four players to play on one psp by handing it over every player, this means hours and hours of fun.

Final Comments
With some connectivity issues to play online and the absence of a game sharing mode, Worms Open Warfare 2 has a lot more to offer than previous versions, a lot of customizable items for your worm teams, landscapes, and weapons can be added via the shop, downloadable content and editor mode. It's hot seat mode delivers a lot of fun hours with friends, showing that this time it's a true Worm World War.
