"Well, at least it lets you play as The Honky Tonk Man....anyone?"

This was a disappointment for sure. Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 was great, but it had room for improvement. I was hoping the controls would be more "fine-tuned" for this game. Well, they're changed, but not for the better. You only use 4 buttons, that's right. Only the face buttons. So it's sort of like the old PSX and PS2 games. You press A for grapples, and the longer you press the button, coupled with the way you move the left stick determines which move you'll do. X is strikes. Y is reversals and B is used for entering and leaving the ring, picking up items and running towards the ropes. So the controls are simplified, simplified to the point that the game becomes really boring after playing for long periods of time.

The game feels so..."slow". Or slower than SvR games at least. A big problem is the way you run, get this. You quickly press the left stick twice AWAY from the opponent to start running. As you may imagine, this means you can't control where your character will run. He automatically runs towards the opponent. Chain-grapples are done with quick time events , you just have to press the button before the opponent does. Reversals have been somewhat challenging to pull off in some earlier wrestling games. Here, you pull it off every single time since it's so easy. That means long matches in multiplayer where all involved can easily reverse every single move. The limited amount of matches available is really disappointing as well.

You have 3 options on the Wrestlemania mode, Relive, Rewrite and Redefine. "Relive" gives you the chance to play through famous matches, and you have to complete certain objectives to progress. This mode is really the best one, and the only one who is only marginally challenging. Rewrite and Redefine are fun as well. Legend Killer mode is tedious as heck. Fighting 38 opponents in a row? Whoa, sounds like fun doesn't it? Who came up with that? It's one hour of extreme boredom, but you know what? You do it, just for the classic wrestling videos you unlock.

The game does have an undeniable charm in the beginning, with all these great old wrestlers, at a time where gimmicks counted more than actual talent. So you got guys like The Honky Tonk Man, Big Bossman and Junkyard Dog, along with more recognizable stars like Hulk Hogan, The Rock and Stone Cold. Some of the stats are a bit puzzling. Ultimate Warrior has "90". Yeah, after WWE told us he was one of the worst wrestlers of all time in the "Selfdestruction of the Ultimate Warrior" DVD.

Legends of Wrestlemania can be entertaining at first, but you'll soon grow tired of the repetitive combat, and fairly limited list of moves. Get SvR2009 instead. My favorite WWE game is still "Here Comes the Pain" for the PS2. Also, can we have "Shockmaster" in a game soon, please? It would be more awesome than the time Robocop showed up in WCW.
