raw 2 surpasses raw 1 hands down but is that enough. (Keep in mind I've only played raw for several hours) the first thing I noticed was the improved speed in the gameplay, it's much faster and the ring doesnt seem like it's as big (which is a good thing to me). The gameplay is um..."different". I mean they took away the fatigue meters and they changed the way momentum is gained. Now you have a single voltage meter, NO fatigue meter and you can never really tell when your voltage is full. (kinda confusing at first but you get used to it I GUESS). *GAMEPLAY* The first thing I tried to do was pull off moves to see what moves were on the game compared to smackdown. (seeing as smackdown has nearly EVERYTHING). Thing is I got lucky and viewed the movies of the game on gamespot (when I was drooling for it to come out) and I saw how the top rop moves like the "frog splash" and "diving headbutt" were done by throwin your opponent to the ground from the corner. Hense in order to do the PERFECT five star frog splash you have to do a corner special. (What If I never would have known that?) That was kinda awkward at first but somethin else I'll get used to. I also tried to figure out how to do the van daminator and it didnt take long. This is a feature that all wrestlin games should have and smackdown does...a grapple with a chair. You just simply pick up a chair and push the grapple button then after you grapple them push it again and you do the van daminator. These moves just fill somewhat hidden you know what I mean. Other than that SO FAR the gameplay is slightly above average. I like the increased speed but the game feels kinda stiff, maybe I'll get used to that too. The referees is a nice touch and I actually got disqualified for hitting him. that's realistic. I haven't played that much of the story mode and so far the most I've done is lose my first match and set a trap for triple h (Which I might add didn't work). I gotta get a better feel for this game to see how the story mode pans out in the long run. My biggest complaint for this game AND FOR ALL WRESTLING GAMES is the lack of belts. I mean it's cool to win belts in story mode (on Raw 2, and Smackdown Shut your mouth) but "SMackdown Just Bring it" had the best feature. You could win belts similarly to "no mercy" and you could defend them in story mode and then you could assign different belts to different wrestlers (you weren't stuck with just one person throughout an entire season) please thq I beg that you BRING THAT BACK. I love defending my belts in exhibition matches and assignin belts I guess those days are over with. *INTROS* the intros hmmm..dont seem as polished as the original raw..I mean they feel "fast"..thats the best way I can explain it..like everyone's intro has a time limit to it or somethin. All the pyro and music are intact (I noticed rvd's music is slightly remixed and Brock lesnar is missing his pyro) and that's SO FAR it may be more missing. *SUMMARY* So Far This game doesn't necessarily "suck" but it just makes me wanna "Smackdown shut your mouth" because that game seems to have EVERYTHING, From match types to moves...yet still NO BELTS IN EXHIBITION THOUGH. That would have made smackdown perfect. So far on raw I see an option to select a different wrestler in story mode so maybe I can assign belts to who I want. (how would I win them though hmmm). OH well..this game is alot better than raw 1 but I doubt it's gone be better than "smackdown here comes the pain" and I'm an xbox fanatic (I do own a ps2 though) but oh well. The first smackdown sucked in my opinion because other wrestling games had it beat but look where it's at now. I feel that that's how the raw series will turn out. I Feel that after the next 2 maybe 3 it'll be the game to beat if they just do it justice. *CLOSING COMMENTS* I hope this review was helpful.
