best wwe game
This game is absolutely amazing. The gameplay is so super, you will almost feel like you're beating the stuffing out of the other guy. The models are wonderfully made, and the wrestling looks realistic. Painfully realistic. The moves look beautiful and the special moves are even more tasty when a special view is used during its execution.
The variety in this game is almost infinite. You can pick from several basic matches like single, tag, triple threat, to the main event matches which includes Hell in a Cell, Elimination Chamber, First Blood, Last Man Standing, Cage, and many more. Not only that, but you can edit the matches further to make it easier, harder, crazier, or fairer, or unfairer (is that a word?). Replay value has no limit.
The controls are mapped superbly and offer the inexperienced brawler a fighting chance against a sometimes tougher opponent. There are four different grapples that have four other grapples that coincide with what kind of move you want to execute. Unlike in times past where pulling off finishing moves was a series of buttons you only need to press one button in the right spot to pull of finishers in Here Comes the Pain. And when you want to add insult to injury, you can pull off your opponent's own special move with as much ease as your own!
The game offers many unlockables like new arenas, new characters, clothes, etc. The way you do that is each match you win, you get a certain amount of cash. If you are holding a title belt, it's more. If you're in a title belt match at a PPV (Pay-Per-View) and defend/win, you get even more cash. You can also hold multiple titles until someone defeats you.
The season mode is great. Pick a Superstar to run with and take him through the maingame. The game is mostly choice-driven, and is altered depending on what choices you make whether they be bad or good. You can even make the choice to switch brands (Smackdown! or RAW) mid-season. This season mode is a big improvement on the past season modes.
The sound would have been even better if THQ allowed the voice of the announcer to call the names of Superstar entrances, and good old J.R. (Jim Ross) and Jerry "The King" Lawler (RAW) and Tazz and Michael Cole (Smackdown!) to commentate. The last Smackdown! installment was Shut Your Mouth and featured these items which added more realism to each match. This was a good feature and should have been retained.
Overall, Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain is the best wrestling game to date and will most likely hold that position for some time. I would really like to see more Smackdown! or RAW games that come out that are just as good, but maybe even better than Here Comes the Pain which is a tall order for THQ. This game is a must buy and whoever even remotely like the WWE this is the only truly great and enjoyable work you'll truly enjoy. Truthfully, there's nothing better.
