Lots to do, as if the wrestling wasn't enough. Very pretty.

User Rating: 9.2 | WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 PS2
Smackdown vs Raw 2006 is a great edition in this long-running series. The gameplay, while some people say is still fast, in my personal opinion has started to slow to a realistic pace since Shut Your Mouth.

This game represents the greatest extent of the PlayStation 2's abilities, and if you ever want to show off to a friend what this console can do, you should pop in this game. The atmosphere is replicated exactly like a TV setting with all your favorite set-ups: Raw, Smackdown, and all the PPV events of the past year. Even Velocity and Heat are included. The player models are awesome and look like their real life counterparts, especially in the face. It's amazing how these superstars come out.

As stated before, the gameplay is at a realistic pace in my opinion. It's much like Smackdown vs Raw, with the addition of things like possum pin (which I can personally do without), and a feature where you put your opponent in a sleeper hold, and the referee holds up and drops his arm to see if he has passed out. It's fun and somehow plays better than the previous installations in the series.

The audio is awesome. The wrestler themes are here, though they only play for the duration of the superstar's entrance, so if you want to use Chris Benoit's music in combination with say Stone Cold's entrance, it'll sound strange when it just fades out and starts up again. I like how the announcers call out hometowns and weights just like on TV when a superstar heads to the ring.

All the sound effects are right on, though in entrances I wish a few were inaudible as if you were watching on TV (i.e. JBL's limo door opening). The music during matches is gone completely, though personally I think there should have been an option to turn some on. Then again, you may not want to hear the music. The five or so songs that play in the menus can get tedious if they don't grow on you. In matches, music is replaced by the commentary of the duo of JR and King or Michael Cole and Tazz, depending on if you're doing a Smackdown or Raw arena.

Also, the GM mode is a fun mode.

All in all, this is a great game for WWE fans. It's leaps and bounds over Smackdown vs Raw, but the season mode in this one still falls short of the awesome one in Here Comes the Pain. Other than that, this is a fine addition for your video game collection.
