Packed with all the features you've come to expect. But has another year on from 2006 improved the outstanding flaws?

User Rating: 8.3 | WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 PS2
Another year has passed. It only seems like yesterday when you were ripping through the clear wrapping hyped about a new stamina system and a host of new superstars to sink your teeth into. Well it's 2007 and were in the same position again. We got a few new features to further push the boundries of the gameplay and yes there are a host of new superstars. However, while this remains a class game there are certain areas that seem untouched or not updated enough to seem like a new game.

Gameplay:

The new analog grappling system is fresh and much easier to get a quick move in like in real life. The movement of the players have also been tweaked. Many moves have been slowed down which makes them seem so much more realistic and so less 'Arcadey'. The reverses are also incredibly animated. And, with the quick grapples you can create some sweet combos. There are also alot more hardcore animations and set ups. Tables, Ladders, Chairs, Trash cans and Sledge hammers all have new animations which has been hankering from fans since HCTP.

Graphics:

It'll instantly hit you. This game has very good graphics. The models in terms of scale, skin texture, face, attire are all spot on and don't seem rushed at all. The style seems unchanged from last year however there are a few new graphical nip and tucks, for example the pyro has had a huge boost (see Booker T's Pyro or Angle's pyro). Despite the good graphics some attires and face have been untouched since 2006. Benoit's attire is the same. Master's face is the same too which I alwasy thought needed a touching up.

Sound:

... Heheheh... Oooooh dear. SDvsRAW commentating has been known to be crude, badly timed and overall a mess. Well 07 is no different, if anything it's taken a step... no a leap backwards. Now the moves are all misnamed from the commentators for example an FU gives out, " Oh my King! What a Superkick! And as I was playing Rey Vs Orton it began spurting out info about Booker T and how he's a cheater. Why? I'd think by 3 years they'd get this thing sorted out. But no, they made a royal mess up with that. Now onto the pros. The soundtrack is simply awesome! Some really fitting heavy metal and catchy tunes to headbang to during the copious loading times.

Features:

Overall the new fea-.... wait.. what new features? Oh well GM has been updated despite the AI being untouched and it still cheats by creating cards filled with specialty matches every week getting outstanding ratings by their invincible roster. The storyline stuff is intertesting but there just isn't enough depth to really make it worthwhile. The CAW mode also seems untouched, okay there are a few new clothes and stuff like that. A great update is the Create-an-Entrance mode which has been significantly updated with new effects and a constant preview in the background which slows the menu down but saves having to hit preview over and over to watch one new change.

Overall: Smackdown Vs Raw 2007 is a fun game, I admit I've stood up while playing shaking my controller shouting, "Av it!" As I bust up opponents. The GM mode has updated which is an excuse for me to play till my thumbs bleed. I've played around 1 Hour of season and completed it. Thinking it was last year's but with new storylines. It pretty much was. Any fan who frequently watches WWE programming this game is a good purchase, it's better than 06 as it has fixed a few glitches however it cannot be forgiven for the terrible TERRIBLE commentary. So just switch that off and enjoy. And don't turn it back on.
