This game needed a little more time in the factory, but it still has its quirks.
BAD: There is no strong grapple, which limits your superstar to only a few moves. No backstage areas. (No Mercy had them, why not this game?) Character models are weak. Create-a-Wrestler doesn't have too many moves to equip your superstar with. Championship mode is faulty; there is no story, and the triple threat matches can turn into handicap matches. In-game music is uninspired and some of the superstars' entrance music is not their real music. Practically none of the superstars look like their real-life counterparts.
As the debut WWE game for the Gamecube, 'Wrestlemania X8' does fairly well. It has its share of match types, some nice arenas to unlock, and an interesting Battle for the Belts mode. But it also has a few flaws that show that this game was far from being done when they released it.
