User Rating: 9.2 | WWF No Mercy N64
Far from perfect, but there's a reson why this and WM2K are still considered by most fans of the wrestling game genre to be the best of the best. Bar none, the THQ AKI engine for wrestling is still unmatched. Sure, Smackdown gives you immediate gratification and a great system, but that all too important realism factor still eludes the series. WMX7 & 8 were two games I hoped would really carry on the tradition or their former Nintendo cousins. Sadly, X7 was one of the worst wrestling games I'd played since my horrible run ins with WWF Attitude, Warzone, and WCW Thunder. ::block the pain, block the pain:: And we all know how crappy WWE Raw 1 & 2 are. Sure 2 gives you even more freedom and No Mercy ever did with customizeable everything, but the one place where it needed a solid foothold, gameplay, Raw just totally flubbed. And yes, I know No Mercy doesn't have very good graphics (though I like them), and yes I know the entrance videos and music are not very good (hell some of them are downright terrible), but where it really counts, gameplay and replay value, No Mercy gets top honors. I'm still playing this game, and it's been at least 2 years since the thing came out. If I were to say anything, it'd be that No Mercy is like that homely (not very attractive) girl that you know likes you. Sure, she may not be the best or even that pretty at times, but at least you're sure that you'll always score, and that counts for a lot.
