It is highly apparent even on first play that there has been a lot of time and effort put into this game. Unlike some other WWF games before, it includes a greater amount of superstars from the Women's (Ivory, Jacqueline, Lita) and Light-Heavyweight (TAKA, Essa Rios, Dean Malenko) divisions. There is also a fantastic variety of match options available; this includes classics such as the Cage and Hardcore matches down to new inclusions like Hell In A Cell, TLC and Casket matches. The new Create a PPV (Pay Per View) mode is brilliant and will be a favourite for those who appreciate the business aspect of wrestling; allowing you to book events and then see their ratings afterwards. The downside however is the horribly repetitive and boring Season mode which you have to devote hours of your time to in order to unlock hidden superstars and match types. It is however the only negative point about this game and in relation to game-play, SmackDown! 2 is considerably faster (even on its slowest speed setting) and easier to control than games such as WWF Attitude and the series for the N64 console. It is therefore well worth the small amount that you can pick it up for these days.
