Generally speaking X-Men games are trash, at least that is my experience. In fact prior to getting this game I had my friends over and we were playing the really old 4 player X-Men arcade game on the MAME Emulator. That arcade title seemed so much better when I was just getting into my teenage years! Thankfully X-Men Legends is now here to save all the fanboys and casual gamers alike! XML follows the traditional hack-and-slash RPG style made popular by games such as, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes. Essentially it involves the player taking on the role of a character and beating the snot out of everything that moves. As you take out your foes you are rewarded with gold, loot and experience with which you can allocate to your skills upon attaining level up requirements. Sounds pretty boring and repetative right? XML takes this tried and tested method and spices it up with things like attack combos (when 2 players combine their special attacks) and the ability to toss stuff around often resulting in huge explosions and walls breaking! The multiplayer aspect is the only thing that keeps me interested in XML, I find the single player quite boring since you aren't yelling at your friends and just generally having a laugh. The only problems we encountered were a dodgy way of choosing which character you wanted to be and people frequently getting lost in the trees. The game is good fun with friends, not so by yourself in my opinion. Has lots more room for development but is a worthy addition to any XBOX owner's collection.
