Improves Greatly on X2: Wolverine's Revenge, but like most movie games, is still very, very flawed

I remember playing this for the first time on the PS2. It was a nice way to spend a half an hour, but after that, I was likely not to play it again for at least a week. Why? Why'll the game does try desperately to give the player a fun experience, especially for fans of the movies, it just comes out feeling like a hollow experience. It is, however, without a doubt much better than the game that was based on X2. That game was no fun at all and featured no real connection to the series, other than providing more of a back story for the overly used Wolverine, which basically shuts up all the people trying to say that the movies aren't ultimately Wolverine's movies. This time around, the game gives you two more movie characters to play as, Iceman and Nightcrawler, and of course, Wolverine. Other characters assist you including Storm and Colossus, and you'll also encounter bosses from the movies including Multiple Man, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike and Pyro, among others. New characters are introduced to the movie universe including Silver Samurai, Hydra and Azazel (Nightcrawler's long-long daddy). The movie also provides us with new information that X-Men The Last Stand could have easily provided us with, like why Nightcrawler isn't around. The game boils down to more of something providing us with new info for the movie universe, and less of a game. All three playable characters provide you with three distinct playing experiences. As always, Wolverine's are nothing more then button mashing beat-em-ups. Iceman is restricted to slide in the sky for his missions, forced to extinguish certain areas. Nightcrawler's seem to be a mesh of Wolverine's levels and something much more and better. His teleporting abilities are accomplished the best in this game. Better then any other X-Men video game. The developers didn't seem to understand how to create diverse levels, as every Wolverine level basically just pits you against, what seems like, a never ending supply of enemies, who chop off your health unfairly fast. It's clear that this game could have been so much better if it was a Nightcrawler solo. But of course, we have to have Wolverine, now don't we. In case you didn't get it, that was sarcasm. Iceman seemed to just be thrown in for fun, because no one really cares about him. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Iceman as a character, but in this game, he is just not fun to play, like Wolverine. I would have much rather played as your two assisting team mates, Storm and Colossus, over both Iceman and Wolverine, and feel that this game could have been much better if the three playable characters were Storm, Colossus and Nightcrawler. And I'm not just saying that because those three are three of my favorite muties, either. But they are both infinitely better and more interesting characters then Iceman and Wolverine, both with much better powers. But I could see Storm being wrangled in the sky, like Iceman, and Colossus levels being similar to Wolverine's in every way, so maybe they wouldn't make it a better game after all. If you want to play the game, you probably won't be playing it for the game, but more for additional movie universe info.
