One of the best RPGs ever

Xenogears is probably in the top 5 best RPGs to not be named Final Fantasy. The story (what I love most about RPGs) is a very in-depth and immersive one, dealing with love, anger, religion, and the value of human life. All very deep and mature subjects, but all handled very well.

The combat is excellent, both in and out of mechs. Player combat is executed through various flashy combos that can be chained together for powerful attacks. Mech combat is much the same, but slightly more straight forward.

There are a bunch of mini games and side quests to explore as well (though not as many as your typical FF game) and they all are worthwhile diversions.

Graphically the game is very nice, especially the FMVs. In addition, the anime-style animations hold up very well on the4 Playstation hardware.

This is a superb RPG and if you can make it through the slow start of the game, you will be rewarded with an excellent story, engaging characters, fun combat, and an overall epic RPG experience.
