Say what you will. whether true or not this is the spiritual successor to one of ps1's best all time rpg's.

Xenosaga has it's problems. It's somewhat rudamentary for namco's first real outing on an rpg of note. it lacks a visceral feel in all it's insanely clean environments...cmon even in the belly of a moon sized alien it looks spotless?! Levelling up is one of the most painfully slow punishments i've ever endured in a game, and even the uber combos take 30+ hrs of play to make worth your while, and finally you almost never ever need your mech.

Not exactly the game i remember from ps1's heyday. Now that said....the story is excellent. the characters are compelling, the combat is solid, and the battle system is surprisingly well-designed. Additionally Xeno1 came with a minigame ((xenocard)) that i still play four years later. this could very well be a stand alone game in itself, and it was a tragedy that it was omitted from the 2nd installment.

Xenosaga is a love it or hate it game...period. I want this game to be a classic soo bad, it makes it at least great for me.

will you love it or hate it? either way you owe it to yourself to play it.
