Yoshi's Island DS is a breath of fresh air for fans of the original Yoshi's Island waiting for a true sequel to their revolutionary game. After several meager attempts, good old tongue flicking, egg launching Yoshi is back.

The story takes place i an event where all the kids disappear from the local school, except Baby Mario, Baby Peach, and Baby Donkey Kong. With the original 8 Yoshis from the first game, you traverse across 5 worlds, utilizing each baby's skill.

Yoshi's Island is that beautiful, eye-candy sort of game. The classic, charming paper and crayon style levels are back. Among this game, there is some really ingenious level design, ranging from searching a giant ship to the classic lava-filled castles and such, Yoshi's Island is a beautiful, innovative game that gleams like a diamond lost in a field of red clay that is the platforming genre. The key aspects of this game are what help it stand out: using your tongue to eat baddies and turn them into eggs. The babies are a new touch; Baby Peach can ride on air currents, Baby Mario can make you run and jump faster, and Baby DK has a dash attack and can climb on vines. Babies Wario and Bowser even make appearances; these are especially fun because of the innovative magnet-based levels with Baby Wario, and well-just spitting fire with Baby Bowser. This is an incredibly deep game if you want it to be; with 20 red coins, 5 flowers and 20 extra seconds hidden in a level, collecting all of which unlocks bonus levels, there's a lot of replay value.

The one glaring issue is the difficulty. You will never find another game with babies riding candy-colored dinosaurs that is this hard. Innovative levels aside, any level that scrolls will quickly have you banging your head on the wall. This, however, is one small issue to overlook with such a fantastic game. If you're a Yoshi fan, or a fan of the platforming genre in general, take a look at this game-just be sure it isn't too difficult first.
