I hate to say it, but this is an awful game.

I actually have wanted to play this game for a long while. I didn't back in the day, if I had would I have liked it? I don't know. I think not. But now I've played it and frankly, it stinks. You play as one of 6 different Yoshi's. Main objective? Eat 30 pieces of fruit in each of the 6 levels and then you have finished the story. There are other challenges available, but I have not bothered to try those yet. The style is appealing and everything but the levels are lame, badly designed, and the fruit collecting is annoying. I would rather have a more traditional platformer. Yoshi has the basic moves down, eating enemies with the tonue, throwing eggs and the hovering in mid-air temporarily. The game is boring, partly because of the easy difficulty, there is no challenge here.

I was hoping for a game in the same style and same quality of Super Mario World 2, which was great. This game is a huge disappointment on so many levels, it's dull, too easy, and despite it's 30-minute length it manages to get tiresome by the second level. It's just nothing special, unique or exciting about it. Look, I know people have nostalgic, fond memories of this game, I didn't play it back then, and I wish I hadn't now. I take no pleasure in saying this, I love Nintendo, and Yoshi is one of my favorite Nintendo characters. There are some great Virtual Console games available now, this is one you can definitely skip.
