Delicious Fun!
User Rating: 8.5 | Yoshi's Story N64
When this game first debuted on the N64, I was instantly captivated by the adorable Yoshi's, the beautifully designed levels, and the simplistic nature of the game. Unfortunately, I lost my cartridge somewhere in a pile of boxes in the garage. So when I turned on my Wii for my ritual Virtual Console Monday and there it was, it was a no brainer download. Honestly, it's the best VC title I've downloaded. (only because I already have Ocarina of Time on GC disc). Why the reviewers on GameSpot consistently give this game low ratings is beyond me. The graphics are absolute candy to the eyes, the game is simple, yet extremely fun. The game is actually designed to be be simple enough for someone less experienced at games to be able to actually complete, yet more experienced gamers will find a nice set of challenges beyond the fairly simple fascade. For example, this is one game my wife, who's a pretty casual gamer, has completed start to finish, yet I can play the same game a full 15 hours more and find a complete different set of goals, levels, and challenges.
Overall, from a "hardcore" point of view, it's not as great as say, Super Metroid or Ocarina of Time. So yeah, it's a little on the short and simple side. But for 1000 Wii points, this is an excellent choice. This game definitely rises above all the garbage being marketed to the casual audience (on disc AND download). This one is actually a lot of fun, it's beautifully designed, and how can you resist the adorable Yoshi's?
