This crayon drawn platformer for the N64 is certainly good, but not a must buy title.

Remember back in the day when you would just get done Super Mario World, and not to long after you finish it Nintendo makes that sequel everyone was waiting for? Well I'm sure we can all agree that it Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island was a fantastic sequel, but also an innovative one. The crayon drawn graphics were extraordinary, especially for that time period, and it was a blast to play as Yoshi all the way through, instead of having designated levels where Yoshi can be used. The reason I brought up Yoshi's Island was because it was the inspiration for Yoshi's Story. Some may even argue Yoshi's story is a sequel. Nonetheless, Yoshi's Story was also very innovative, creative, and everything in between. Not only that, but it was one of the few side-scrolling platformers the N64 had to offer. It even introduced some new concepts, but not quite enough to really stand out from Yoshi's Island. It did also tweak all the old elements from the SNES hit, but in the end, it feels like Yoshi's Story is a storybook with a few pages torn out of it. While it's gameplay was fun, it seemed a bit standard and repetitive. Hard levels would usually bring some more enjoyment out of the game, but at the same time there were too many easy levels. I haven't spent a great deal of time on the game, in fact I haven't even gotten around to beating it, and honestly, I don't think I ever will. It has the "been there, done that" feeling to it. Put that together with fun but lacking gameplay, and you have a decent platformer that I suggest you rent first to see if you like it. Yoshi's story simply isn't an eye popping stand out game like Yoshi's Island for the SNES.
