Review for Zelda:2 (GBA) A real opinion of a real Gamer!
I'm a huge fan of all retro games. They just overwhelm me witha feeling of nostalgia and it makes the game even more fun knowing that 15 or so years ago, some talented designer put together such a great game with such limiting technology. However personally, Zelda 2: Link's adventure falls into the gray are of such a feeling.
Initially, I was extremely exicted to play the sequel to the beloved Orginal Zelda. I was highly anticipating more complex dungeons, the same catchy tunes, and some more innovating adventures in the land of Hyrule. And I got all that... Sort of....
Upon firing up the Gameboy advance you come to the title and screen and upon clicking start you'll have to register your name to begin the adventure.
You begin the game in "Zelda's" castle. First thing you'll notice is the
--SIDE-SCROLLER-- View. I at first, was taken by suprise at the radical new view. As I'm sure everyone is used to, all handheld 2-D Zeldas are overhead view. Not this one. This is what makes it the black sheep of the Series.
The overworld is essentially a map that leads to other side-scrolling areas. The goal of the game to collect the crystals, place them in great tower, defeat ganon, and then breath life into Zelda. Along your valiant quest you'll come across various items that like every other Zelda game out there,
allows you to access new areas. The areas themselves constantly feel like recycles parts, but their is a little variety. The battling system has also taken a change; RPG-Style! With each enemy you defeat, you are awarded points.
(Which in turn are based on the enemy-difficuly.) I like this aspect and find that it works suprisingly well. Then again, I'm a huge fan of RPG Games.
The only drawbackt to the system is; unless you raise a level (either in Magic, Life, or Attack) you will lose all the point you have earned thus far.
Perhaps that was included to increase theg ames overall difficulty. Whatever the case, iy canget annoying.
Overall the game is a somewhat mediocre average NES Classic title that only should be picked up if you a die-hard zelda-fan and must have every one ever created, or one who wishes to endeavor in the black-sheep RPG Adventure. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it to the Average gamer. Theirs just better GBA Titles out their.
