Different but not a bad game

User Rating: 7.8 | Zelda II: The Adventure of Link NES
Back in the days of NES, we did not know what was to come with the Legend of Zelda series. We didn't know the Ocarina of Time was going to be considered one of the best games of all time. We didn't know the Link was going to be a cell-shaded kid on the high seas. We certainly did no know that he was going to be fighting Mario and Fox on a Pokemon balloon. So when we think about how this game was made, think about how there was little to compare it to.

Adventure of Link was a side-scroller in a way similar to games like Mario, but with a more involved story and RPG leveling system. As Link, you travel through the world to find a cure for the sleeping princess. You travel from town to town, dungeon to dungeon to search for the cure. In the game, you are equipped with a sword, shield, and magic. So little to take on so many enemies.

The side-scrolling action may not seem as good as the original top view game, but it is just a different feel. It is still part of the overall epic of Hyrule. Enemy encounters are random but you can avoid them in a sense by avoiding the enemy images that pop up when you are on the world map.

The sound is not the best, and can be quite annoying at times, but if you focus on the fighting or turn the sound off and pop in some music, you'll be fine.

This game can be easy or hard, depending on whether you level up or not.

Overall, this is a good game, but it doesn't have the feeling of the rest of the series. It will feel like an action RPG version of Final Fantasy, rather than a sequel to the Legend of Zelda.
