An uninspired, and typical tactical experience, Zoids Assault plays like alot of turn based games but in other aspects, such as plot, it completely fails. The cutscenes are boring, the pre-game cutscenes appear as newspaper clippings and a slideshow, which would be acceptable if it were on say the PS or N64, even the cinematics are boring as they only show the zoids standing around blabbing about something that I still can't understand (I watched it twice....). The plot is feels kind of slapped on, it's like Atlus had a plot ready for a different game but they decided to change it to Zoids at the last minute. Even the battles themselves feel like they have absolutely NO connection to the story. The battles are ok, they incorporate a level up system but there is no way to replay levels and train making it useless, and the weapons have little variety and the customization is weak. Although there are skills which help the battles although they play a small role in battle, Zoids re-deeming feature is it's graphics though, it's actually the only fun thing about the game, basically watching the zoids blow each other up is the most fun you can get out of it. All in all if you want a Zoids game play Battle Legends on the Gamecube.
